It looked as if it was going to be a lovely morning so we decided to have a day out in Bakewell, one of our favourite places. Paul wanted a new woolly jumper for the winter and we thought it was just the place to get one. It takes about an hour to get there so first thing we wanted was a coffee.
Of course now we are home I'm tired so just a short post today with a few words and photos taken as we wandered around.
Above Bath Gardens
The Grade 1 listed stone arch bridge which spans the River Wye in the town.
The five arch bridge dates from the 14th century and is made of ashlar gritstone.
Above and below - views from either side of the bridge down the river. I remember a picnic many years ago on the banks of the river to the right of the photo when a group of friends and various of their children gathered for a huge picnic. It was one of those enchanted days still remembered.
is famous or infamous for its love locks.
Above the Riverside Garden which houses a sensory garden, we sat and had our sandwich lunch in here after a succesful jumper purchase.
Above and below the Rutland Recreation Ground.
Again some happy memories from childhood as this was one of three destinations for a Sunday afternoon outing. It was the furthest away from home. The next nearest was Matlock Bath and the nearest to home was Clumber Park.
A lovely day out Rosie - I remember those love locks! I was very taken with Bakewell but sadly it is quite a way from us.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the flu jabs. Usually at our GP's there is no queue you are in and out but this year there was a huge one all down the drive! It turned out that as well as people with appts they were letting people just go in without one! So we cancelled and went to Boots by booking an appt instead which was very quick.
I've always loved Bakewell and wouldn't mind living there. Can't afford to of course. I've had to put a short sleeved blouse on and am feeling cool on my arms this morning. We went to Boots last year too as our surgery didnt have the two open days we were undecided which to do this year but will try the surgery first. Take care:)
DeleteThanks for taking us along too. The photos are lovely and looks such a great place to visit. Hope you don't have queue for too long. Ours are usually by appointment only, though chemists do them too nowadays. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the visit, Susan. We went to Boots Chemist for our jabs last year but thought we'd try the surgery first as they have sent so many texts about it. Take care:)
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit. I hope you managed to track down a jumper, clothes shopping can be quite tricky these days. Hope the flu jabs go well, good to get that done and out of the way. 😊
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely place and yes a jumper was bought, a lambswool one rather than a chunky one aran type one, which was what we were looking for. Clothes shopping is difficult now most places I used to shop have closed or gone on line. I hope the flu queue isn't too long today:)
DeleteThe arched bridge has great appeal.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely bridge William and so old too to take todays traffic:)
DeleteLooks like a lovely place to visit. Hope Paul found his jumper. B x
