Snowfall

It's back for one last flurry, I hope, before Spring finally settles in for a month or two.

Weather warnings are out, gritters are probably out on the main roads but I've no idea as we won't be going anywhere for a while.  Up on our hill we rarely see the gritters now the bus service is no more.

Tuesday was an exquisite day, sunny, dry and cold but with the promise of Spring.  We walked across the nearby fields and down towards the park where Daffodils and Snowdrops sparkled in the sunlight.  The next day all had changed as is the weather's wont especially on the cusp of seasonal changes.

We shopped on Monday morning and have enough vegetables to make a warming casserole which will last two days.  The left overs from today will be topped with mashed potato and swede and turned into a vegetable 'shepherd's' pie tomorrow.

The bird feeders have been topped up ready for the flurry of birds that will visit mid-morning and early afternoon.

Peanut, the black cat from across the road loves to visit our garden two or three times a day.  This morning he wasn't deterred by the snow but decided to shelter a while under a shrub.

Goldfinches are early visitors to the feeders.

The male Dunnock showing off his pink legs.

Both Blackbirds and Magpies brave the snow and cold as they seek food.

All photos taken through windows as I haven't been ouside yet.

The sky has lightened slightly but it is still snowing so there is no chance of a walk today.

All for now.

  1. Such beautiful pictures, I wish they were bigger to see better. Even on the previous posts, those pictures are worth to be seen bigger.

    1. Thank you, I sometimes try them bigger but they seem too big, perhaps I should change the layout to accommodate them. Thank you for visiting:)

    1. He is, although he's quite shy and runs away from us if we are in the garden:)

  4. It is very pretty but we don't want snow now do we? In London the sky is grey drizzle, it is bitterly cold and everything is sodden and green. I hope you are staying warm and cosy indoors. x

  6. We had more snow yesterday and overnight. We look out to a white world with no movement in our road. Gritters don't attempt our hilly district. We stay in and look forward to warmer weather. Take care both of you.

    1. We finally saw gritters go by on the road at the end of our side of the Crescent but not up and around it. I hope you are staying warm and cosy this weekend:)

    1. I guess your weather patterns will be the same as ours here. We did have a short walk yesterday as the snow was soft and not too deep. It was good to be out in the fresh air after two days inside. I loved the feeder but it took awhile for the birds to accept it. Have a lovely weekend:)

  8. Let's hope this is the last of the snow although your photos look very pretty. It's been so windy too, good job you haven't been out. Poor birds, just when they are thinking about a nest and a family, your goldfinches look wonderful. Have a good weekend. 😊

    1. I hope the birds will be okay in this weather, they keep popping in for top ups to get them through the night. Perhaps nest building is on hold for a while. It's great to have the Goldfinches. Have a lovely weekend:)

  9. You seem to be getting a lot more snow than down here. Just a little sleety stuff and a whole lot of rain so far.

    1. Lots of snow and less rain here, that would be good to wash the snow away as long as it doesn't freeze. Lets hope after this cold spell Spring will really be on the way:)

  10. Burrrr, looks cold, but I think I can tell the white stuff is melting so there's hope. I've never seen a Goldfinch with a red bill. Beautiful! We had to stop with our bird feeders in our community, as we were having too many un-wanted varmits as a result and the city is trying to control things. Enjoy all your birdies.

    1. The Goldfinches are very pretty birds but they do scrap with each other. We have Grey Squirrels on the feeders too and they do take a lot of food from the birds:)
