The snow has gone now and has been replaced by wet and windy weather. Before the snow finally disappeared we walked across the local fields just a street and a half away from home. It's good to have so much open space between us and the city centre.
It was a beautiful sunny day even though it was cold.
There are lots of horses in paddocks up on the fields.
Signs of people coming to feed the livestock.
A view to the city centre.
Talking of the city centre we decided, once the snow had gone, to visit the Potteries Museum to look at an exhibition of wildlife photography by local amateur photographers. There were some stunning photos. No photos taken because of copyright but also because there were tables in the gallery ready for children to make clay sheep.
We had a cup of coffee and went to look at the Spitfire Gallery as well as the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition and the art gallery. The two photos above are taken through windows either side of the gallery to the front and rear of the museum.
As we were leaving we spotted two large Herdwick sheep with their lambs in a pram. They were performers called Flock from the Bread and Butter Theatre Company. Heidi and Henrietta Herdwick were very popular with visitors. Here is a - link - to more photos of Flock.
When we got home Mrs Fox came for a visit. It was a joy to see her peeping through the hedge. I think there will be fox cubs again this year.
I realised I'd missed a Louise Penny book and had recently read her latest one 'A World of Curiosities' before the one above.
All for now. Take care in the dismal weather, let's hope for more Springlike weather soon.
What a lovely place close to home to walk. Pleased you enjoyed the museum and exhibitions. I have seen the Staffordshire Hoard one at Birmingham Museum - some of the pieces are just so beautiful. It looks as though you have some good reading there Rosie and fingers crossed about the fox cubs :)
ReplyDeleteThank you RR, the Staffordshire Hoard gallery is wonderful and has been refurbished recently to reflect the changes in the exhibits as well as interpretation. Two of the books have been read and two still to read around one I have on my tablet. Too much reading sometimes:)
DeleteLovely Rosie, even though it was cold. The Potteries Museum looks fascinating & oh, those sheep are something else. Good to see your fox back & our weather has been so up and down with temps in the low 30s again by the end of the week. Up north have been on flood alert again & yet here, after all our rain last year, it's been quite dry again. Strange! Have a lovely week, take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan, your weather sounds all over the place I hope you stay both flood and drought free. It was great to see the fox in daylight, we sometimes hear them at night. The sheep were so funny and yet heart warming too, they had 'Sheep may safely graze' playing in the pram:)
DeleteThe Potteries Museum sounds like a great place to visit next time hubby and I are in the area.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping we've seen the last of the snow for this year and can look forward to Spring arriving. Mrs Fox is so beautiful, I do hope she brings her cubs to visit you.
It is a good museum, always lively and interesting.Lots of pottery of course but much more too. A bit of everything. We always park at Tesco nearby and walk over the road, much better than the complicated multi story parks. I hope we see the cubs too, one year we saw Mum carry four cubs, one at a time, to safety across our garden when a fence collapsed two doors away and spoilt their den:)
DeleteThe weather is awful, so windy and grey here and it looks like you've had lots of snow but your visits to the Museums are the best antidote especially when there are a couple of sheep ready to make you smile, at least they were warm! 😊
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been awful the last couple of days, so no walks. Sunshine today but a dental appointment first before a walk. Those sheep were great and made everyone smile, they did look warm too:)
DeleteThat fox is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteShe is indeed:)
DeleteThe fox photo is frame worthy, so beautiful. And those sheep--they better watch themselves with Mrs. Fox around. I am trying my first Louise Penny book, but not really liking it so far. She seems to write in sentence fragments, which I don't care for. but maybe I will get used to her style. She certainly seems popular.
ReplyDeleteThank you Granny Sue, the fox is a beautiful creature. The sheep made everyone smile. I struggled at first with the Gamache books until I got used to the language and settings. Now I enjoy the characters and the village of Three Pines:)
DeleteSounds like a great visit to the exhibition. Love the sheep and the snowy photos. B x
ReplyDeleteThe photo exhibition was outstanding and the sheep made everyone smile as they walked around the museum. Thank goodness the snow has disappeared although we woke up to it again yesterday it has gone now:)
