Saturday Morning

This morning we drove up through the city to visit Biddulph Grange Gardens.  We try to visit in each season although visits over the last three years have been fewer than normal due to Covid restrictions and then my being ill earlier this year.  Our National Trust membership cards have hardly been used but it's still useful to have them for when we eventually get to travel again.  A proposed visit with friends to Sutton Hoo to see this year's special exhibition had to be postponed and then cancelled because of various reasons like delayed building work and recovery from an operation for our friends and then my illness too. We shall no doubt use our cards again at Little Moreton Hall next month where things are back to normal this year and Piva will be performing with their early music Christmas cheer.

At Biddulph the Christmas lights were being set up and some areas were closed.  The Chinese Pagoda was under tarpaulin and the tunnels through to the Pinetum were closed off.  Workers were still laying cables for the lighting getting all ready for the opening next Friday of the Festive Evenings.

We decided to have a coffee first and couldn't resist the newly baked and still warm cheese scones.  It was then time to take a stroll.

All for now.

Take care.

  1. Did somebody say warm cheese scones? 😆 it's nice to get back to normal where you can just pop in to an NT place when you feel like it rather than book ahead. Little Moreton Hall will be fantastic I'm sure. 😊

    1. I knew you would appreciate the mention of cheese scones. We like to keep the NT membership going as their properties are always good places to stop for a leg stretch and refreshement when travelling. Looking forward to Little Moreton:)

  3. Lovely photos and its always good to visit a garden through the seasons when you are able to.. I must admit our NT and EH membership cards haven't been used too much in recent years :( Cheese scone sounds delicious. I've only been to Biddulph Grange once but would love to go again. Take care Rosie.

    1. It was good to see the bare bones of the garden in it's Winter plumage and just good to be out in the fresh air. The cheese scone was a triagular one and it was delicious fresh from the oven. Biddulph is always worth another visit:)

  4. How very beautiful! What are the red things? Apples? I would be so enchanted by this place. Thank you for the mention of Piva. I had never heard of them but I enjoy old music very much so went and ordered their holiday CD. Hopefully it will get here before Christmas!

    1. They are large red berries. It looked as if they had all dropped off the tree at the same time as its branches were bare, I guess the birds will find them on the ground too. We have Hey Ho Holiday by Piva - very festive and the musict they usually play at this time of year especially at Little Moreton Hall. I hope you enjoy the CD:)

    1. I think the evening openings are on the website not sure if you have to book, I know you have to book for the evening lights at Trentham so imagine it may be the same at Biddulph:)
