In the Garden

Five things for this Friday from in and around the garden.

1.  It's time for Clematis, Sweet Peas and Roses.

2.  Strawberries are ripening fast.

There are many more to come.  Gooseberries will be next and then plums.

3.  A posy for the kichen table from the garden made up with Pinks, Chive Flowers, London Pride and Alchemila Mollis

4. The frogs have returned to the pond.

Three have been spotted and at least ten newts too.

5.   A couple of months ago I told you the story of the Vixen rescuing her four cubs from a couple of gardens away where an old shed had collapsed. She carried them one by one through our garden to the safety of the school's little nature reserve which is just over our hedge.  We had seen three different cubs and wondered if the fourth had survived.  A couple of nights ago we popped the wildlife camera out overnight and the film above is what we captured.  Four happy, healthy cubs.  Well done Vix.

    1. It seems to be at the moment, but we could do with some rain to help it along:)

  2. Great news about the little fox cub :) I love your little posy of flowers - it looks so pretty. Our strawberries are ripening too - just in time for Wimbledon fortnight :) Envious of your gooseberries - when we grew them years ago I used to love making a gooseberry fool and also of course crumbles!!! Your garden seems to have so much colour :) Have a lovely weekend and take care.

    1. It was such a thrill to see the four cubs together and that they had all survived. I expect some of them will move on soon to find their own territory so I'm glad they are enjoying life at the moment. We moved and cut back the gooseberry bushes a few years ago and it has taken a while for them to fruit again. I must find out how to make gooseberyy fool without gelatine, I'm sure it can be done. I love gooseberry crumble too. Have a lovely weekend:)

  4. That's excellent news! What a wonderful scene to find on your camera. I love your little posy, it's so fresh and colourful. I had to bring in a rose which had snapped off in the rain. Your strawberries look delicious, I'm sure you'll enjoy them over the weekend, have fun. 😊

    1. I saw s posy made with Alchemila Mollis on a recent gardening programme so thought I would try it. We haven't had much rain here and the pond will have to topped up over the weekend if we don't get any. The strawberries are lovely with strawberry yoghurt on them:)

  5. It's good to see so much happening in your garden with happy news about the survival of the fox cub. Your strawberries are further on with ripening than ours. We're looking forward to home grown soon.

    1. Plants are coming along well and new flowers opening up all the time, I was so pleased to see the purple clematis flowering as I though we had lost it earlier in the year. Hope your strawberries ripen soon so you can enjoy them in the sunshine:)

  7. Ooh the strawberries look delicious & your table posy is not unlike what I do with snips from the garden. I love the frog & although we can hear them here, I rarely get to actually see them. Glad the cubs are doing well. Take care & hugs.

    1. The strawberries are smaller than usual but still tasty, sort of tart and sweet at the same time. The frogs have gone again now it is colder, they seem to come to the pond when it is hot, we have a couple oflog pies where they may shelter from the weather. We saw three of the cubs last night. Take care:)

    1. Thank you Simone. London Pride always reminds me of my grandma's home as she had a lot of it in her garden. Hollyhocks too. My granny had shamrock in her garden under the front window:)
