On Friday

It's Friday! Shall we have a five?  Below are five things that have made me smile this week.

1. Tulips - a different colour combination to the last ones.

 2. Squirrels in the garden always make me smile.

3Spring flowers on a cold and frosty day

4. A new animal trail for children around the gardens at Trentham.

5Occasional, wintry, crisp and  frosty days
to make up for the foggy, dreary, damp days we've had more of recently.

A Frosty Walk

It has been cold here this week with flurries of snow, some of it settling but not as much as we thought there might be.  We managed a couple of short walks during the week both around the local lakes.

Above and below a few scenes from yesterday's cold and frosty walk around the lake at Trentham Gardens.

Brrr....... we have an early appointment this morning and various things to do so I'm up and about before we have to dash out of the house, thank goodness no more snow fell over night.  Tea and toast for breakfast, cat fed and watered, lit tray changed, bird feeders topped up and bird bath de-iced, recycling bins emptied, breakfast pots washed, dried and put away.  Time to go!

Whatever the weather wherever you are, stay safe and warm, or stay cool if hot weather is affecting you at the moment, either way have a good weekend.

Foxgloves

Yesterday morning in the stumpery on the lakeside walk at the Trentham Estate

Foxgloves

As far as the eye could see

My camera couldn't do justice to how beautiful they were

I stood taking in their beauty but quite a few people just passed by, jogging, walking, talking, heads down gazing at their phones.  They were missing such a treat.

Flower Wednesday

In the gardens of the Trentham Estate, sited in between the meandering 'Rivers of Grass' flower beds and the formal Italian Garden you can find the metal Arbour or walkway.

At the moment it is full of roses and as you walk through the scent of them is wonderful.

I'm afraid I don't know the names of the rose varieties but they were all lovely in the mornng sunlight.

Monday Miscellany

Time for Monday miscellany again otherwise known, this week,  as scenes from a lakeside walk.  Probably more photos than words in this post......

Great Crested Grebe

Pussy Willow

Greylag Goose

Rowing boats and daffodils.  The weather must be improving as the rowing boats are out again as are the deckchairs.

A pair of Mandarin ducks near the Lakeside Cafe.

Mr Mandarin ventured out of the water. What a handsome fellow he is!

Macaque monkey up a tree over the fence in the Monkey Forest!  We haven't been in there for a few years I think we may visit again this year.

Miss Elizabeth on her trip down the lake to collect the first passengers of the day.

View across the Italian Gardens.

Above and below views in the newly refurbished garden centre

All photos taken at the Trentham Estate, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.  See you again soon.
 Have a lovely week.

Monday Miscellany

It was such a lovely morning we decided to walk at Trentham today instead of our usual Tuesday.  The sun was bright, making it impossible to see at times but it was so lovely to feel the warmth of it on our backs and to see the blue sky.

Today's walk was all about light and shade, reflections and shadows.

As we walked around the garden, the spring flowers were out.  Buzzards wheeled over head, cormorants and herons flew over too on their way to the lake,  and the crocus geese made their way across the grass.

 More crocus under the trees

 Such a beautiful colour

Daffodils were hard to photograph in the bright sunshine but lots of them are in flower now.

The reflections of the colours were so vivid

Planting was underway in the kitchen garden

The trees looked wonderful against the blue sky

Paul walked in front of me as I was taking this photo but I've left him in as in his warm, beige coloured hat he looks a bit like a fourth mushroom.

Everything looked so clear and sharply defined in the sunny brightness.

I love the shadow of the head of the goose on the right reflected on the flank of the goose on the left.

The beginnings of the new stumpery using the roots of the trees that have been removed for the refurbishment of the garden taking it back to how it was when designed by Capability Brown.

The trees themselves were looking wonderful in the glorious light.

Two hours passed by so quickly.

What a lovely morning it was!
