The Garden on Sunday

The garden seemed inviting earlier this morning.  I had a good wander around to see what I could find.  It's this time of year when things change so quickly and fears that plants have been lost to cold and wet weather are unfounded as signs of life are spotted again. The sun is out now and it really does feel as if long awaited Spring may finally be around the corner.

A few views across the garden.

Some of the raised beds have been dug over.

The Wood Anemones are in flower

Wild Garlic is sprouting all over.  Foxgloves too.

The rhubarb is looking healthy

We cut a few stalks and had stewed rhubarb and custard for tea. The first of the season.

In the conservatory a cutting taken last year from the Clematis Montana has developed and is in flower

It's  been transfered to a larger pot and given some canes to climb up

It's been a good day to get out into the fresh air.

  1. Well, a rare thing Rosie. Me first or second to comment. The garden looks larger than usual. It must be the rhubarb. Enjoy. ❤️Robert 🐰

  3. Your garden is looking good & the rhubarb is doing well. Mine isn't as I think it needs replanting, but my local greengrocer picked the last from his little plot behind the shop for me last week & we also had crumble & custard with ours. Look forward to seeing your garden come to life as Spring moves on. Our garden needs a good going over as it looks rubbish at the moment. Take care & hugs.

    1. The rhubarb suddenly sprouted after not looking so good. It was tasty with custard, I'll make a crumble too later this week. Lots of areas in our garden need sorting out, I've just shown the best bits:) Take care:)

    1. It is getting a bit too big for us Barbara, I can't do too much now. We have such a lot of lawn and hedges which the birds love:)

    1. Oh dear, sounds like a heavy frost where you are, we had a light frost this morning. It's warm and sunny now:)

  6. Your garden is looking lovely - so envious of your wild garlic - was only saying the other day I would love some in the garden. Well at least it is now sunny and dry for a few days even if its cold. We've lost a few plants at the caravan - Rosemary, hydrangea, honesty and the bay trees look rather poorly! Must have been that very cold weather.

    1. Glad you have been to the caravan but not so good about the plants. Perhaps they will survive with a little care? I hope so. We have lost a couple of plants by forgetting to put them in the green house. I've lost a couple of scented geraniums which were left out by mistake:)

  7. Your garden looks very verdant Rosie! I went out in the garden yesterday for the first time this year! I also pulled some rhubarb and baked it in the oven to stir into yogurt. The wood anemones are a very pretty colour. I hope you get to enjoy a lot more spring days out in the garden. x

  8. I love my early morning walks in the garden too. Well done on the clematis cutting. Something for me to try. Your rhubarb must be very early. Ours is only just pushing through. B x

    1. The last two mornings we have had a slight frost which has soon disappeared. The rhubarb has done well this year, it always seems to be ready quite early, perhaps it is the variety, it was in the garden when we came here and has always done well:)

  9. It's amazing sometimes how resilient plants can be after the Winter. Your clematis cutting is looking well and I'm sure it will soon be romping away with lots of beautiful flowers. Rhubarb and custard is one of my hubby's favourites. Our rhubarb seems to be doing well too so maybe I should go pick a few stems for him :-)

    1. We were pleased that the clematis cutting had taken, it is a very hardy plant and the larger one at the top of the garden we inherited when we moved here keeps on flowering each year. We took some rhubarb to a friend yesterday and she rang this morning to say she had made pies to put in the freezer:)
