A Little bit Festive

After a few days staying at home nursing a cough which turned to a cold and then went back to being a cough I finally went out again on Saturday. I suppose I'm lucky as I haven't had a cold for years it had to be my turn at some point.

We decided to see what the Christmas Market at The World of Wedgwood had to offer.

By noon it was quite lively, there was live music and lots of stalls offering wonderful home made food and crafts.

It was quite cold and breezy but the forecast rain was staying away thank goodness.

Fantasy Wire who are responsible for the fairies at Trentham Gardens and other places too.

Angels at my Window - beautiful glass angels to sparkle in a festive window.

Lovely plants, flowers and door wreaths as well as beeswax candles and jars of honey.

Inside was looking very festive indeed

Shall we take a peek?

All the decorations this year were in the iconic blue and white Jasper ware colours.

Except for this table which seemed to have brought the outside in as everything was coated in a thick covering of 'frost' or perhaps it was snow.
It was all very magical,

very seasonal
with its beautiful, soft and muted coloursAs we left the shop and visitor centre where there were more stalls inside the heavens opened and that predicted rain caught up with us.  It was time to return to the car.

Today we've been walking at Ilam which is one of my favourite places.

It was sunny but very windy and quite cold down by the river.
After our walk we sat in the car and watched redwings and fieldfares flying over the trees and resting in the bushes behind us.

I did take a lot more photos of the river and the church but I'll show you those in my next post.

We spotted a few of these around the paths too.
Time to settle in now and write a few more cards and letters.

Or perhaps I'll read a few more pages of this book which I started yesterday.  So far I'm enjoying it.

  2. Oh bees wax candles!!!! Wonderful!!!

Too bad the weather was so un-Holiday-ish. :-)

Glad you seem to have beaten the cold. Oh those lingering coughs though. A friend has had one, for so long.

Wise to sit in car, and enjoy nature, from a protected place. :-) Don't want to get another cold!!!!

  3. I spent a Christmas near Ilam some years ago and it was either wet or foggy for most of the week. A great shame because it really is a magical place. Glad to hear you were able to shake off the cold.

  5. The Christmas market is so festive and just magical :) I love the glass angels and I adore beeswax candles :)

The walk at Ilam looks lovely and it is always special to see flocks of Redwings and Fieldfares.

I hope your cough and cold have cleared now and I look forward to seeing more photos of the river and church :) Also hope you can make it to Bakewell for the Christmas Tree Festival - would love to see some photos!

    1. Thank you. I think the Bakewell tree festive is 14th - 23rd so I'm hoping the ice and snow stay away and that we can get there. We have to travel to both Mansfield and Chesterfield before then to visit relatives. I'll certainly do my best to get decent photos of the trees. There were loads of both redwings and fieldfares.. I gave up trying to photograph them and just watched them with the binoculars:)

  7. That looks a great trip, a little bit of everything making it all look really festive. I managed about 15 minutes mad dash round Wedgwood before it closed having been held up in a traffic jam, I must go back again one day. 😊

    1. Feeling festive is begining to catch up with me, not quite there yet. How lovely to have friends living in Ilam, did they live in one of the pretty Swiss looking cottages? You must have been on some lovely walks there:)

  14. Lovely Rosie & thanks for sharing. It all looks very festive, something I'm definitely not feeling this year. Stay warm & do hope you don't get another cold. Do you get free flu vaccinations in UK when you are of a certain age? Take care & huggles from down under.

    1. Thank you Susan, it is taking me time to feel festive this year too. Yes I qualify for a flu jab. I had mine about a month ago and that was delayed as they ran out of serum during the first round a flu clinics:)

    1. Thank you Linda, it was so long since I'd had a cold that at first I thought it would go away in a couple of days, but it was stubborn. Hoping the weather stays fairly mild as we have travelling to do in the next few days. I'll be back with more about Ilam after that:)

  16. Your walk looks lovely, and certainly much brighter than the grey skies we've been under for ages. Love Rudolph - is he slate or some other material?

    1. Thank you Jayne. Saturday was a bit grey but Sunday was lovely and sunny first thing. I think the reindeer - we found six out of the eight - were made of wood rather than slate and the names painted on in white paint as they were all outside hidden in trees and bushes waiting to be found:)
