It's time for Five on Friday kindly organised, as always, by Amy at Love Made my Home.
Below are five things that have made me smile this week
1. Heart Shaped Biscuits made on Sunday (see my last post) ready for Tuesday. We still have a few left.
2. One sunny afternoon Mr Fox decided he was going to sit in our garden for a while. I saw him trotting over the lawn and thought he'd make off through the hedge but he plonked down and curled up. He stayed for about half an hour - such a joy to see. The photo was taken from our bedroom window through the glass with the camera on maximum zoom so I didn't have to stand too close to the window.
3. Earlier in the week we went over to Mansfield to visit some relatives and we ended up at Rufford Abbey for a walk along the paths from the Abbey to the Mill. The Abbey ruins were closed for renovation work but it was lovely to see the old building in the sunshine.
4. On a recent walk at Consall Nature Park we went on to the station platform where the Churnet Valley steam railway runs through from Froghall to Cheddleton. I was drawn to the old British Rail posters. They made me think of summer and holidays and travelling to different places.
5. A few of the things I spotted whilst on our walk at Consall, an old barn, stark winter trees, canal boats and moss and lichen on a gate post. As we walked we heard a woodpecker tip-tapping, a buzzard mewling, pheasants cackling and oddly, for midday, the hooting of an owl. There were robins, dunnocks and chaffinches flitting between hedges and singing as we walked along.

A lovely five Rosie. The fox has to be my favourite. Looks like he was enjoying a moment in the sunshine :) B x
ReplyDeleteHe seemed to enjoy his snooze in the sunshine:)
DeleteIt's amazing that the fox sat in your garden for so long. He looks 'super-chilled'. Jx
ReplyDeleteHe visits often late evening in the dusk but not usually in the afternooon:)
DeleteI'm very jealous of your fox. We sometimes see them passing over the churchyard but our gardens are walled and I don't think they'd get in.
ReplyDeleteThe fox does jump over our side fence and we've seen it on the garage roof once or twice:)
DeleteYour five made me smile too. Mr. Fox is very handsome! Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteGlad to make you smile. He is a handsome fox in't he?:)
DeleteGood five, it's always good when the weather lets us get out for a walk. I'm always fascinated by canal boat.
ReplyDeleteI love walking by canals, some of the boats there have permanent moorings:)
DeleteSounds like a good week, Rosie, love your EB Valentine's plate and the biscuits too of course!
ReplyDeletebon weekend.
M
The biscuits did look pretty on the plate! Bon weekend to you too:)
DeleteHow wonderful to be able to capture such a close photo of the fox, stunning. I love the look of the biscuits too.
ReplyDeleteI was pleased the photos of the fox turned out as I was standing quite a bit away from the window when I took them:)
DeleteI enjoyed your five glimpses into your life--yes even the fox visitor!
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you enjoyed the photos, even of Mr Fox:)
DeleteMr Fox looks very comfortable sunning himself in your garden. All of your five made me smile too and your biscuits look delicious.
ReplyDeleteGlad to make you smile. Mr Fox does look comfortable doesn't he?:)
DeleteLOvely five. You must be very fit with all the walking you do!Barbaraxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara, we do try and walk a couple of times a week in the mornings, I don't know if I get a lot of exercise though as we are always stopping to take photos:)
DeleteWhat a lovely five - you must have been chuffed with the fox sighting a great photo ). I do like the railway posters and the pictures from the canal walk. Sounds like you had a good week and the biscuits still look delicious :)
ReplyDeleteI love those old railway posters, they make places look so glamourous don't they? It's my favourite walk, through the country park and down by the canal, river and railway. The last biscuit was eaten today:)
DeleteLovely five. Definitely made me smile. Love the canal boat.
ReplyDeleteHappy Five on Friday
Thanks, Sharon, glad to make you smile:)
DeleteWhat a wonderful photo of the fox!! I love those old railway posters, the ideas of where to go and just the beautiful pictures themselves!
ReplyDeleteI think I could live with one of those posters on my wall, I could imagine then travelling to the seaside or something like that:)
DeleteYour walk sounds delightful with all the various sounds of nature! The fox looks very healthy - not like the scruffy urban ones we have around here! x
ReplyDeleteAs the sun was out, wildlife seemed to be perking up again. Both foxes and squirrels all look sleek and well fed around here, lots of people put food out for them:)
DeleteI'm surprised you've still got some biscuits left! Great photo of the Fox enjoying the sun. Have a good weekend 😊
ReplyDeleteHa ha - they were quite large biscuits and were more like a little cake in texture so one was enough each day with coffee. It took us a few days to eat them:)
DeleteThat sounds like a lovely week and you were so lucky to have the fox stay for a while :)
ReplyDeleteWe see him at night time on the fence or in the garden but not usually when it is light:)
DeleteThe fox looks very comfortable in your garden. Great shot. I've been noticing more bird sounds again now that winter is on the wane - they are lovely, aren't they? Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, the birds are definitley begining to sing again, when we walked around the lake the geese were very noisy, it's that time of year:)
DeleteI enjoyed your five. Would love to have a heart shaped biscuit! That fox is great. Hope you have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe just happened to have a heat shaped cutter so we thought we would have ago at biscuits:)
Deletethank you for this weekend glimpse of your countryside.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the photos:)
DeleteI think Mr. Fox wants to become friends. He has that welcoming look about him. Love the photo of the canal boats. I was fascinated by them when I was in Stratford on Avon (is that how you spell it?). We have the Erie Canal, but I've never been there. Wonder if we have canal boat as well?
ReplyDeleteYes, there are lots of boats on both the canal and river there, I love to see them moored up near the theatre and think it would be great to sail in on one, moor up and go to the theatre:)
DeleteOh I love the sunshine on the fox photo
ReplyDeleteIt was a bright, sunny afternoon, I just happened to spot the fox as I passed by the window:)
DeleteThat's a lovely Five, Rosie. I don't blame Mr Fox at all for lingering in your garden - every time you show us photos of it I think that I'd like to linger there. x
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Mrs T, the garden looks a bit brown and dull at the moment but soon the signs of spring will be there to see:)
DeleteAs we don't have foxes in New Zealand your picture fascinates me - I would love to have seen him sitting on your path resting, he looks quite at home!
ReplyDeleteWe've been watching a TV series Great Canal Journeys with Timothy West and Prunella Scales and loved it. We've done one in France and would now like to do a UK one too!
Shane
Glad you enjoyed Mr Fox. We love those canal programmes with Tim and Prue and there was another interesting canal programme on their early history in relation to social and economic history which was fascinating. I hope you come and travel some of our canals systems one day:)
DeleteLovely pictures. I love the fox. He looks so comfy there! We have some in our woods we see now and then. Great nature-type post! I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Thanks, Cindy. We had a different fox on the garden yesterday, it had far more dark fur on its legs and ears than this one:)
