........ Make soup! Yesterday there was a knock at the door which, when opened, revealed one of my neighbours clutching two huge parsnips. 'A present', she said! We had bought a few parsnips the day before but I didn't like to say we didn't need them so, of course, I accepted them.
Adding three of the smaller parsnips we had bought as well as an onion, Paul made a lovely soup for lunch.
It was warm and tasty on such a cold, wet and sleety day. There is enough soup in the fridge for another day too.
After lunch we made biscuits and cut them into heart shapes ready for Tuesday.
They are cooling on the rack as I type this post
A baker's dozen! They might need a bit of decoration, perhaps? I'm sure a few of them will find their way next door to say thank you for the parsnips.
I've never had parsnip soup, but it sure looks good.
ReplyDeleteIt was very tasty:)
DeleteThe soup and buscuits look delishous xx Have a lovely week xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, you too:)
DeleteI love parsnip soup, one of my regular standby's. Often on a Sunday I will chop up what ever is lingering in the veg box, sweat it in butter and then add stock and simmer. Quick whiz and lots of homemade veggie soup for the week. B x
ReplyDeleteYour soup sounds delicious:)
DeleteI don't really like parsnips BUT I like Parsnip soup! Weird eh?!?!?! That was very kind of them. Your biscuits look amazing!
ReplyDeleteSomething must happen to the taste of parsnips when soup is made:)
DeleteYum. They both look delicious. 😊
ReplyDeleteThey were and still are, more soup stil to consume and some biscuits left too:)
DeleteWhat great neighbours, I love parsnip soup with a little nutmeg added it really lifts the flavours.
ReplyDeleteMmm yes, I'd forgotten that nutmeg could be used:)
DeleteThe soup and biscuits look delicious - how kind of your neighbours to bring some parsnips round. You can't beat homemade soup especially at this time of the year :) Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteI love soup and it really is so quick to make. We have lovely neighbours:)
DeleteMy husband hates roast parsnip etc but loves a nice creamy soup. Your biscuits look very professional! Jx
ReplyDeleteKezzie (above) said a similar thing in her comment, likes parsnips as soup but not any other way. Perhaps it is the texture?:)
DeleteHi Rosie, I love parsnip soup! Yours looks particularly delicous and perfect for a cold winter's day. Marie x
ReplyDeleteOh, it was lovely and warm and filling on a cold day:)
DeleteYour soup looks so delicious. I don't know why I so often forget about soups altogether :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
I love soup at this time of year. Happy Valentines day to you too:)
DeleteWould you mind sharing your recipe for your parsnip soup, please? I love parsnips, but have never had parsnip soup.
ReplyDeleteHello Mary, thanks for your comment. We just peel and chop roughly the parsnips and any other veg going in with it. You can boil/steam/sweat in oil until tender and then liquidise in a blender. Warm again to serve adding more water if necessary or milk/cream/greek youhurt to get the consistensy you want, also add salt, pepper, nutmeg to taste. Hope this helps:)
DeleteThank you Rosie, I will definately pick up some parsnips at the grocers on Friday and make this. I looks lovely.
DeleteThose parsnips certainly came in handy to add to your soup! The heart shape biscuits look perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, we had enough soup for two lunches and the biscuits are very tasty, we took some with us this morning with a flask of coffee to have after our walk:)
