The warm weather over the last two days has brought the first butterflies to the garden.
There were two Commas flitting around each other and settling on both heather and rhubarb. I'm assuming there was a male and a female but I don't know which is which.
The rhubarb seemed to be the favourite resting place.
Talking of firsts, it looks from the growth on the rhubarb that the first rhubarb crumble of the season is just around the corner.
Yum, how delicious! Great to see the butterflies too. 😊
ReplyDeleteHe, He I did think for a moment you meant the butterlies!:)
DeleteThose Commas look great. We've had a few in the garden but nothing was kind enough to rest on a leaf for me to capture them. Enjoy your rhubarb. B x
ReplyDeleteIt took ages to get the shots of the Commas as they were flitting around for ages but I got them in the end:)
DeleteA great capture of the Commas. I managed to photograph one in the Italian garden. There were other varieties flitting around, but I was glad to get a shot of the Comma when it settled. You've reminded me to go and see how the rhubarb is doing in the raised beds. Yesterday we enjoyed some Spring broccoli.
ReplyDeleteHope your rhubarb is coming along nicely, Linda. I love the first few sticks when it is crisp and sweet. Commas do tend to settle after awhile don't they?:)
DeleteGreat to see the butterflies - such a delight especially the first of the year :) Rhubarb crumble sounds lovely especially when the rhubarb comes from the garden :) At times very much regret getting rid of our fruit and vegetable patch :(
ReplyDeleteWe still have gooseberries and a plum tree as well as the rhubarb but we had to get rid of the apple tree as it was diseased and rotting when we first came here:)
DeleteLovely :)
ReplyDeleteI saw my first butterfly of the year today, a peacock, whilst out on a walk.
Great to see the first ones isn't it?:)
DeleteFirst Comma this morning! What a delight to see.
ReplyDeleteThey always seem to be the first in the garden don't they? We did see a Brimstone on Cannock Chase a couple of weeks ago:)
DeleteI adore rhubarb crumble! The butterflies are certainly attracted to the vibrant green rhubarb leaves! x
ReplyDeleteThe Commas did seem to be attracted to the rhubarb leaves. I like rhubarb crumble too:)
DeleteLovely to see the butterflies so early! I didn't realise they were so attracted to the rhubarb leaves. I'll have to check mine out and yes, you better start preparing your crumble as the rhubarb is certainly thriving in that spot
ReplyDelete:)
The rhubarb always seems to do well near the hedge, and butterlies do seem to like to settle on the leaves. I'm looking forward to the first crumble of the year:)
DeleteLovely photos... the gorgeous weather this weekend was a real bonus!! Jx
ReplyDeleteIt was wasn't it? Just right for the butterflies and the ripening rhubarb:)
