It's Friday so once again I'm joining in with Amy
at Love Made my Home for this week's Five on Friday.
Earlier this week we visited Biddulph Grange Gardens our nearest National Trust Property. At this time of year and into August and September one of the highlights, and there are many, is Mrs Bateman's Dahlia Walk.
I think we were a little early for the dahlias in their full glory but there were plenty of blooms to see so I've selected five to show you below and a further five to make a collage with.
I hope you enjoy them
This will be the last Five on Friday link up until September as the wonderful Amy, who has kept us going with this, is taking a well deserved summer break. Thank you Amy for continuing to join us all together, have a lovely summer break and we look forward to starting again in September.

I've been thinking of taking a day out to Biddulph in the near future. Would you recommend it over Trentham Gardens?
ReplyDeleteBoth very different. Biddulph is quieter, with lots to discover in the different little world gardens, you could combine your visit with Rode Hall or Little Moreton Hall. Trentham has different things to offer as it is much busier. There are the gardens, wildflowers and the lakeside walk, boat trips, retails outlets and garden centre plus monkeys. You coud spend a whole day there. It depends how much time you have:)
DeleteWe've 'done' the monkeys and the retail park (Pieminister is a regular for lunch, then Cadwalader's for afternoon tea) but I've never got to the gardens. Every time I try it pours with rain!
DeleteOh they are so pretty Rosie. Dahlias always remind me of my grandad, he grew them in abundance and we always went home with a bunch. Thank you for sharing, have a lovely weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThey do make lovely cut flowers for the house don't they?:)
DeleteThe dahlias and your mosaic are sooo beautiful. Lilac and pale yellow go so well together.
ReplyDeleteThe lilac and yellow ones were lovely together and they do sit well side by side:)
DeleteBeautiful Dahlias, wish we could grow them here.
ReplyDeleteWe have one but it is a constant fight with the slugs to keep it flowering:)
DeleteWe have one lonely, but beautiful Dahlia in our garden. It would be a treat to visit Biddulph and see the gardens. I love the blooms that seem to melt from one colour to another, and the ones with contrasting petal tips. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWe just have the one dahlia too at home. Biddulph is a lovely garden with many gardens within it and always a joy to walk around:)
DeleteAren't they gorgeous, so precise and colourful. It's just a bit too early for them all to be out at once isn't it, something to look forward to though. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, we may return towards the end of August or early September when they will be at their best:)
DeleteBeautiful mosaic and indeed blooms. Love the wide range of colours.
ReplyDeleteThank you, glad you enjoyed the photos. The colours are lovely aren't they?:)
DeleteEnjoyed your five and will miss your posts until Sept when the party returns.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I will miss Five on Friday too but will be posting about other things occasionally through August, I hope:)
DeleteGreat photos... I love the pops of color :) That looks like a wonderful place to visit. Thank you for sharing. Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb and thank you for visiting, glad you enjoyed my post:)
DeleteMy dahlias haven't really "got going" yet either. They are such varied flowers and you've captured a nice selection here.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, we may make a return visit later to see if there are more. The one in our garden has ben flowering for ages but that is just one variety:)
DeleteWe came home from our trip to discover the dahlias just beginning to bloom. They make such wonderful cut flowers for the house. I'm looking forward to them "really getting going." There are so many varieties of dahlias, and your photos show them well.
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd made a note of what the varieties are so I could have named them in the post, but it was hard to lean in and look at some of the dangling tags as other photographers were waiting to get their photos. They do make wonderful cut flowers don't they?:)
DeleteHow lovely to have a walk just for dahlias, and such an amazing variety. I left some in the ground over winter last year and didn't really expect them to survive, but they have come back bigger and stronger than ever - wonders will never cease!
ReplyDeleteYour dahlias did well as they usually have to be taken in over winter, it must have been a mild one. How lovely that they all came back this summer:)
DeleteLove dahlias but have never been very successful growing them myself. There are so many gorgeous varieties, something for everyone. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm never sure if I prefer the shaggy petaled ones or the pom poms, but then the petaled ones are lovely too and as for the colours - it is so hard to chose:)
DeleteBeautiful photos and gorgeous dahlias - love all the different colours :) The National Trust does have some superb dahlia displays - the one at Calke was good a few years ago and I always try and visit the one at Baddesley Clinton. Great post Rosie :)
ReplyDeleteThey do don't they? We visited Baddesley Clinton in late May 2013 but I remember the garden as being very beautiful and I love the walled garden at Calke:)
DeleteBeautiful blooms what a fab mosaic you created with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maggie, glad you enjoyed them:)
DeleteI've really got to make an effort to visit Biddulph Grange, that dahlia walk looks as though it will be really fantastic when it is in full bloom.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely garden to visit, I'm sure you would love it:)
DeleteBeautiful. I've never been but you are tempting me now... x
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely place to visit if you ever come this way:)
DeleteIt is a long time since I have visited. I really must make the effort when the Dahlias are out :-)
ReplyDeleteIt has changed quite a bit over the last few years, the Dahlia Walk is lovely:)
DeleteI love dahlias. Those pictures are wonderful. Don't think I've been to Biddulph. Another property to add to the list :)
ReplyDeleteBidduph is a garden of gardens all influenced by different parts of the world with plants collected by the Victorian Plant Hunters still around, plus new innovations too:)
DeleteI think the Dahlia walk looks lovely. I think we should all grow more dahlias! The only down side is the slugs and snails strip them of leaf and flower in no time! x
ReplyDeleteWe had one dahlia corm last year which we overwintered indoors and then planted out again it has done quite well but it's badly slug bitten in places:)
DeleteThank you for your kind words! We visited Biddulph last year and it was pouring with rain, but still beautiful, so you must have really enjoyed it on a dry day! Lovely to see it again! Thank you too for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great August and I look forward to seeing you again in September! xx
ReplyDeleteI think Biddulph even looks lovely in the rain but it isn't good if it is absolutely pouring as the paths get very slippy. Have a great August, Amy:)
