Yesterday we made a Christmas wreath for the front door
Out into the garden to forage for all the foliage needed - hazel twigs to make the circle.
Holly - this bush has variegated leaves.
A few small branches off the Leylandii
The wreath base was made by winding and criss-crossing the twigs
Then it was ready to to start layering up and attaching the foliage
After this was done it was time to add some little red hearts and the bow
Once that was done we tried it on the front door - it looked ok in a home made, rustic kind of way which is what I wanted. Just one thing though, we'd forgotten to add the pine cones I'd collected so they will go on later. It's back inside for the moment to have the cones put on and the pine smell from the Leylandii leaves is wonderful. Suddenly everything seems very festive. This weekend the tree and trimmings will come out of the roof space. It is finally feeling a bit like Christmas is getting closer.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
I think it's beautiful and looks quite professional!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janet - I did have lots of help:)
DeleteYour fresh wreath looks lovely Rosie and mostly with materials from your own garden! The hazel twigs look just the thing to make the base with. Have fun putting up the rest of the decorations this weekend. x
ReplyDeleteYes, everything from the garden or local park (cones) except the ribbon and little hearts:)
DeleteLooking good. The bow is a really nice touch. You're way ahead of me Rosie, but making decorations from foliage is something I enjoy too. Job for next week!
ReplyDeleteIt has got a bit battered in the wind and rain so isn't quite so fresh looking now but still ok. Hope you enjoy making your decorations:)
DeleteWell done, it looks beautiful and well worth the effort. (puts me to shame...we bought one from a local farm shop!) Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thanks, Lyn - merry Christmas to you and yours too:)
DeleteYou make it look so easy! But it's lovely, I can almost smell it from here! It's perfect for the holiday!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim - the difficult part was making the hazel ring but that should last for next year - I hope:)
DeleteYou've done a great job - I do like a traditional wreath.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine - I didn't want one that was too fussy:)
DeleteSo Leylandii has some redeeming features after all! Looks a very splendid wreath to me.
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed and it does smell wonderful too:)
DeleteThat is so gorgeous Rosie. I made the base for wreaths some time ago from some honeysuckle that had got out of hand and they dried really well and I'm still using them. x
ReplyDeleteOh, what a good idea - we cut down a honeysuckle in the spring and I nver thought of using it for that purpose - very clever:)
DeleteThe wreath is wonderful! Homemade ones are the best and I can just imagine that fragrance.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda - yes it does smell wonderful:)
DeleteWell done Rosie - it looks gorgeous. I saw old Crusty make one on her Handmade Christmas thingummybob the other day and was very tempted to give it a go - but didn't! Glad you're starting to feel festive x Jane
ReplyDeleteLol yes, I saw that too - wasn't she in Norway? I missed the first bit - feeling slightly festive but still not there yet:)
DeleteVery professional - it looks great. Jx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan:)
DeleteThe wreath looks lovely and festive. It's satisfying to make your own from what you have in the garden. I've been thinking about making one this year, but the double-glazed door is unsuitable for hanging it. I've put up some decorations indoors, though and I hope you've managed to get yours done at the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda - it is nice to make your own - we did manage to sort out the decorations mid week as when we wnt into the roof space on Sunday we discovered a leak and a lot of things were damp:)
DeleteWhat a fab wreath, it looks so expensive I have seen them in the shops for loads of ££, XX
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is look a bit bedraggled now after the wind and rain but still ok:)
DeleteOMG!!!!! Your wreath is fabulous!!! I love it. It really is so pretty and how great that you made it all yourselves. I always wondered how people made the base for the wreath and now I know so thank you for showing that! xx
ReplyDeleteOh, bless you Amy - glad you like it. the base is quite a faff to make but I have a resident artistic person who is good with things like that - I'm hoping it will last for next year too:)
DeleteYou could start a cottage industry - that's fab!!! Although I suspect your hands and fingers wouldn't want to make more than one!! It looks better than a bought one xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane - must admit I'm pleased with it. We've run out of suitable length twigs now but hopefully that base will last until next year too:)
DeleteHi Rosie,
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by for another visit to wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas.
Marie x
Thank you Marie and Happy Christmas to you too:)
