We spent last week in Wales. We travelled into Powys, having collected our friend from Lincolnshire at Shrewsbury station and made our way via Clun and Knighton to visit another friend who lives in a small village near Llandrindod Wells. We spent the first day in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park. On the morning of our second day we sat in the sunshine in her lovely garden drinking coffee and I took some photos of the poppies growing there.
Patty's Plum. Mrs Perry, Princess Victoria Louise and one whose name I can't remember.
After making sure our friend was safely on her train home to Lincolnshire we made our way up to our neighbours' caravan, which is on a site between Tremadog and Beddgelert, via the RSPB nature reserve at Ynis-Hir which overlooks the River Dovey estuary not far from Machynlleth.
During our stay we walked some of the coastal path around Criccieth and also between Porth Dinllaen and Neffyn.
We also visited the RSPB nature reserve at South Stack on Holy Island, Anglesey not far from Holyhead.
Close by were the fascinating ancient hut circles at Ty Mawr, Holy Island, Anglesey
We also spent some time at beautiful Porth Dinllaen, walking along the beach to the harbour and back before walking along the costal path.
The last full day we spent at Llanbedrog where again we walked along the beach before looking around the art gallery and sitting in the sheltered garden for afternoon tea.
On our way home we visited Erddig as it was ages since our last visit. We had a lovely lunch, went inside to look at the house and then had a wander around the gardens before setting off for home.
I'll write more on some of these places in more detail later. For now the lawn needs cutting, the weeds are sky high and there are piles of laundry to grapple with.

Erdigg is a lovely place to visit. We went to the Christmas Fair there last year. Freezing but fun! We hardly ever go to Wales, which is silly really as we're very close to it really on the Wirral. Must do better!

Wales is so beautiful! Are you just across the River Dee from it? There are so many lovely places to see:)
DeleteIt looks stunning and those gorgeous poppies, just lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy friend comes from a gardening family and the little garden she has created over the last few years is just lovely:)
DeleteIt looks so lovely there. Glad you enjoyed your 'wanted' seaside trip. Suzy x
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful to see the sea and relax a little in such a lovely place or two or more!:)
DeleteMy favourite part of the world - your photos are lovely! Jx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan - it's one of my favourite areas too, I never tire of it:)
DeleteGreat photos. Lovely to be reminded of home - I was brought up on Anglesey. There used to be a rope bridge from the island onto South Stack. I've never visited Erddig - must go on my to do list.
ReplyDeleteJune
There seems to be a proper bridge now but we didn't go all the way to the lighthouse as it wasn't part of the RSPB land. Erddig is very interesting as they concentrate quite a lot on all the servants and I love the 'downstairs' even more then the 'upstairs':)
DeleteGlad you had a lovely time. Much better weather than last time I see. Can't wait to see what you got up to. Lovely photos xxxxx
ReplyDeleteWe had lovely weather for the first half of the week, heavy rain Thursday and Friday afternoons and evenings and a super day on Saturday and Sunday - yes much better than last year:)
DeleteIt looks like your week away was well worth the laundry!
ReplyDeleteI've still not got all the washing done as the rain has stopped me pegging out and I have limited space to dry indoors - still worth it though:)
DeleteThese photos are amazing, I would love to visit Wales! You're blessed to have been somewhere like this!!
ReplyDeleteTammy xx
Thanks, Tammy indeed we are - it is a lovely country:)
DeleteLovely photos. The scenery is stunning. There are some places I'd really love to visit here, particularly South Stack and the ancient hut circles at Ty Mawr.
ReplyDeleteBoth places were so interesting - there were about 10 huts spread across quite a large area - I need to find out more about them:)
DeleteI've never been to the Brecon Beacons, but I recognise the Anglesey shots, and Criccieth Castle. Great places - lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteThe countryside around Brecon is wonderful. It is an area I'd like to explore more some day:)
DeleteLooks like a lovely relaxing break Rosie. I hope you are feeling re-energised and ready to tackle the weeds and the laundry!!! x
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely, Simone - lawns are cut, some weeding is done but some washing still needs to be done as the rain got in the way:)
DeleteLovely photos Rosie. My sister lived in Newtown, Powys about twenty years ago and I remember visiting Clun and the surrounding areas. Beautiful scenery and as you say lots of places to visit.
ReplyDeletePatricia x
We did stop and have a 'leg stretch' at Clun and went up towards the castle:)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous collection of photos- I haven't been on holiday to Wales since I was little- It looks like a great place to visit. The photos are lovely, very evocative of your visit.:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amanda, I tried to chose just a few photos that brought back happy memories of our visit:)
DeleteBeautiful collages Rosie, the poppies are like big, blousey Edwardian ladies hats.
ReplyDeleteThanks! What a super description of the poppies:)
DeleteI don't know Wales very well I have only been once about 35 years ago - there looks to be lots of good walks to be had and plenty of historical interest. Glad you enjoyed your break. Your friends poppies are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWales is so beautiful I never tire of visting. The poppies are wonderful aren't they?:)
