Our nearest local woods are noted for their bluebells and this last week has been a good time to see them.
Hem Heath Woods are maintained by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and I think in a previous post about them I mentioned the many trees lost to the Ash Dieback disease.
Lots of Ash trees have been felled, the tree canopy is more open and the paths seem wider but the bluebells soldier on regardless.
I could hear Robins, Wrens and Blackbirds but missed the Song Thrush, Nuthatch and Chiff Chaff that Merlin told me I should have heard.
We seemed to have the wood mostly to ourselves, just two or three dog walkers from the nearby houses.
We spotted many other wildflowers along the way.
All for now. Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you for your Bluebell wood photos , if I'd have queued for half an hour and paid £5 I could have had photos like this but I didn't bother! So it's good to see your local bluebell wood
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue, it sounds like we are lucky to have these woods on our doorstep, quiet and free to wander around, glad you enjoyed the photos:)
DeleteIt's my dream to one day walk in an English bluebell wood. So very beautiful. Here we only have the invasive Spanish variety. Still pretty, but without scent. Thank you for sharing your walk.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorrie, I hope you can visit a bluebell wood one day, they are veery special:)
DeleteThat is a lovely and pretty walk Rosie. It must have been relaxing listening to the birds. Have a nice weekend. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Simone, it was a lovely, gentle walk with much to see and hear:)
DeleteI hope you don't get this and a partial comment as well as I accidentally closed down the window! It is so lovely to see the bluebells and other wild flowers. The photos are super. It is sad about the Ash trees being cut down but resumably for health and safety reasons if they are near paths they have to be cut down. I think some trees show a tolerance towards it so hopefully some will survive. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, I only got the one comment, I've done that before and completely lost a comment and had to re-write, it's very irritating. They do seem to have cleared many trees along the paths for safety. I hope the trees are gradually building a tolerance to the disease. The woods are so pretty at this time of year with the bright green fresh leaves and all the wild flowers:)
DeleteA beautiful walk. I really enjoy being in the park and forest.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Best wishes from Viola
Thank you Viola. It was a lovely walk and so peaceful:)
DeleteThat looks a lovely peaceful walk with lots of beautiful bluebells and other wildflowers to enjoy. There's no sign of rain for the next couple of weeks, let's hope everything can hang on without it. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you CK, lots of bluebells, my photos didn't do justice to them. The lack of rain is worrying, we've had to top the garden pond up three times already and the water butts are going down, we'll probably get some rain eventually, fingers crossed:)
DeleteSeeing the carpet of blue from the Bluebells is such a lovely sight. Thank you for sharing your photos and walk, Rosie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley, I love to see bluebells in the woods and elsewhere along road sides and in gardens. It's a favourite time of year:)
