Tuesday's Walk

Yesterday's walk  at Trentham Gardens was all about Lambs and Swans with a few other birds heard up in the woodland.  It was a beautiful morning so fresh and green after the rain the day before.

We brought the Merlin bird song identifier into use and along the paths up at the top of the estate we heard Jackdaw, Robin, Blackbird, Wren, Chiff Chaff, Blackcap and Jay.  Later down near the lake we heard Greylag geese, Blue tits, Coots, and Common Reed Warblers.  Up in the trees a woodpecker was tip-tapping but for some reason,  this didn't seem to register on the App.

It was lambing time on the Estate and we saw quite a few lambs.

The sheep are brought into the lambing area from the field when lambs are due.

There are a mixture of Jacob and Herdwicks.

Back down by the lake there were lots of swans.

Quite a gathering in fact.

Whilst in the formal garden the tulips were looking wonderful.

I love all the different colours together

Such a cheerful sight.

  1. Another lovely walk - the tulips are putting on such a good display. Those lambs are so cute! Great to hear about the Merlin app again - OH has one on his phone but sadly I can't hear bird song any more. In fact the only thing that would make me have a hearing aid was if it enabled me to hear bird song again! Enjoy the rest of the weekend Rosie.

    1. Thank you Caroline, the tulips are lovely at the moment, beds and tubs full of them in all colours. The lambs were lovely the bigger ones all jumping up and down over each other and their mothers. Merlin is great as it tells us what birds are about, Paul can usually identify them but I can only hear some of them, usually the robins, wood pigeons, collard doves and crows. I suppose it depends on the frequency of the sound. I'm exactly the same with human voices, some I can hear others I can't. I did have hearing aids a few years ago but they made the sounds too intense, the noise wore me out - especially in cafes and public places:)
