Ashbourne

It was such a quiet dayWe'd completely forgotten that yesterday was a second Bank Holiday.  It didn't matter as I didn't want or need to go in anywhere.

We just felt like being somewhere different for a while. As we travelled towards Ashbourne there were many large puddles on the roads and several fields flooded in patches of lower ground.  It did rain quite hard over the Christmas weekend and it is still raining today.

A few shops were open.  One or two charity shops and clothes shops like Joules and Fat Face.  Local shops were mostly closed except for a newsagents.

This meant that the streets were empty which made taking photos quite easy,  I always worry about getting in people's way.

It was lovely just to walk around in the fresh air, enjoying the views and the shop windows still dressed for the festive season.

I hope you all had a good Christmas and were able to see family and friends if you could.

We had a zoom chat with friends on Christmas Eve, a quiet day on Christmas Day and a long, local walk on Boxing Day.

As you will see from the photos there was a slight drizzle in the air but it was fairly warm for December.

I'll leave you with more photos below of things we spotted on our way around the town.

Take Care

  1. Lovely post and photos Rosie and the town centre looks blissfully quiet and free of people :) It looks a good place to visit. Not been out here and a bit fed up of being surrounded by same four walls but weather has been so damp and rainy! Very mild though!

    Take care and stay safe.

    1. Thank you RR I couldn't believe how quiet it was, we were lucky to go at the right time and it was good to be out and about. We had coffee in the car so didn't have to go in anywhere. The weather has been very damp so not many walks. Hope you can get out and about soon. Take care:)

  2. Lovely wander around a very pretty town, but the special photo is the black Morris Minor decorated for Xmas. We had one very similar many years ago that we had so much fun in with the 3 kids when we lived in Tasmania and belonged to the Morris Club. It brought back memories. Maybe I should get to grips with Zoom & maybe talk with friends on the other side of the world. Thanks for this post, take care & hugs.

    1. Thank you Susan, glad you enjoyed the post. The old Morris Minor was wonderful, I loved the decorations, I hadn't seen it there before so it must have been moved there just for the festive season. It sounds like you had a great time with the Morris Club. I still like those old green ones with wood on them - Miss Marple cars. Have a good New Year and take care:)

  5. I'm sure I have been to Ashbourne but I don't recognise the town. It looks a beautiful place to wander around with lots of individual shops to explore especially when everyone was staying at home. I'm so glad you had a great Christmas, I must get out for a walk before long I haven't left the house for ages! 😊

    1. The sun is out today here so good for a walk before sunset. Ashbourne has lots of history and lots of old buildigs around the area of the church,I always find it fascinating. It is also the start of the Tissington Trail. Hope you get out for a walk soon:)

    1. Sounds like you had a lovely stay. The Museum of Childhood is at NT's Sudbury Hall, not far from Ashbourne. I hope the museum is still going as there was a question over it keeping open just before covid. Glad you enjoyed the photos:)
