Time has gone so by quickly and summer is meandering towards its end. Yet, perversely, time seems to have passed by slowly too as many of the things we might have done with the summer have been affected by the inertia caused by the times we are living through.
Last Friday I reached the age of seventy and it doesn't seem real even to say it but I'm grateful to have reached that milestone.
Yesterday we ventured to - Ilam Park -which is looked after by the National Trust and parked at the Blore Pastures car park. We walked down towards the village as far as the road but didn't venture any further as it was getting busy. I expect nearby Dovedale was even busier. We took coffee and biscuits with us for elevenses which we had when we got back to the car.
The weather was just right, sunny and dry but not too warm with very little wind. Just a gentle breeze blowing the branches of the trees.
It was lovely to travel just a little bit further afield than we had done for ages.
The views were stunning and there were lots of people walking up on the hills.
There were also lots of sheep.
Most of them ignored us
There is always a curious one who dares to stand and stare.
Some people like us meandered along the paths, others were very energetic.
Berries and Keys
fluffy, feathery things
and lots of stone walls, wooden gates and seats. Blue skies too.
A belated Happy Birthday Rosie, it looks like you had a lovely celebration :)ReplyDelete
Thank you Pam. A quiet, stay at home celebration - we will do something special later, if possible:)Delete
Congratulations on your 70th Birthday Rosie and a Belated Happy Birthday. It looks as though you had a lovely celebration. So pleased you managed to get out and walk a little further afield - your photos are so lovely. Although time has passed so slowly between March and now especially during the lockdown as you say the Spring and Summer has somehow been and gone. Very difficult times as we seem to have "lost" so many months especially of days out. Take care.ReplyDelete
Thank you RR. It was a strange birthday as we didn't go anywhere or go away anywhere because of the virus, it's always difficult when my birthday falls on the Bank Holiday weekend anyway as we would normally stay at home to keep away from crowds and busy roads. Hoping to go further afield later this month if possible. We have lost so many months haven't we? I thought Ilam at the top end would be fairly quiet for a walk and we left just as all the cars were arriving:)Delete
I do hope you can get away for a break. We've had 3 family birthdays here since March and I have a horrible feeling that life will be much the same come my birthday in December. I must admit there are times when I do find it all rather horribly depressing. Hard to believe life was once "normal" and you could go wherever you wanted without being in constant fear! Thank goodness for my books and garden :) Take care Rosie.Delete
Happy Birthday! That's great news, I hope you enjoyed the festivities, what a year to turn 70, you won't forget that in a hurry. Lovely to get out in the wilds in such a beautiful spot, I love your photos. 🥳ReplyDelete
Thank you Karen, just a quiet day at home, we hope to do something special later when we feel able to go out and about again and perhaps stay overnight somewhere. Ilam is a beautiful place:)Delete
Congratulations on your 70th. A belated Happy Birthday! It looks like you had a lovely day. You chose a beautiful area to take a walk. Let's hope for many more days of suitable weather for getting out and about. Autumn can be pleasant when the weather is dry.ReplyDelete
Thank you Linda it was a lovely day, very quiet but we will do something special later this year if it is possible. It's getting to that time of year when you have to take advantage of the weather when you can and Monday was a lovely day to get out and about:)Delete
A belated Happy Birthday!ReplyDelete
Beautiful landscape views.
Thank you William:)Delete
A belated Happy Birthday it seems like you had a wonderful celebration and such a great stroll. So much to look at and admire on that walk.ReplyDelete
Thank you MM. It was a quiet day as we had no plans because of the virus and the fact that it was Bank Holiday weekend. We plan for something nice later this year if possible:)Delete
Your birthday table looks delicious Rosie. Ilam park looks like a lovely place to visit though I don't visit anywhere these days! It is nice to see the pictures of such places on blogs and then I can dream that I went in person! xReplyDelete
Thank you Simone. I always love to have croissants for breakfast on special days as a treat. Paul made the vegetable lasagne and I made the Eton Mess. I think that was the first time we'd visited that area for ages, it's one of my favourite places:)Delete
A very Happy Birthday to you. Lovely pictures. I can't believe it's September either. Same as you I feel like Summer has gone quickly yet slowly. I am hoping September gives us sunshine. XReplyDelete
Thank you. I enjoyed being out and about and taking photos again. It has been a strange year one way and another. It would be nice to have a few more sunny days:)Delete

Thank you Barbara. We would have liked to have gone away somewhere but it wasn't to be this year. I hope your move goes well and that you are happy in your new home:)Delete
Lovely Rosie & glad you can get out a little further now & have a wander, though seems you do like we do & take eats/drinks with you. Hope your birthday was as nice as mine (blue sky & sun which we've not seen for 3 months)the day after & glad you said what you did about reaching 70. We are still here..........Take care, stay safe & huggles.ReplyDelete
