Into July - In the Garden

I can't believe it is July already. Over the last few days it hasn't felt like July at all.  So cold and windy.

Below are a few photos taken in the garden over the last few days.  We've had lots of lovely visitors. Mostly birds this time.

 Male Bullfinch

 Female Bullfinch

Two of the little group of Long-Tailed Tits who occasionally visit to feed and use the bird bath.

 Robin having a bath

Blackbird enjoying the berries on the Amelanchier tree

Wood Pigeon and Herring Gull tolerating each other.

Frog - glad we still have at least one in the garden.

Fox - I had to take the photo quickly and the bird feeders were in the way.

New Flowers have been appearing

Honeysuckle

 Rose

Hydrangea

Hollyhock

Dahlia

Poppy - yesterday it raised its head and this morning it had begun to unfurl its petals.  I took a photo straight away in case the petals blow off in the wind.  Although windy it is at least dry this morning.

In the garden crops are beginning to grow

Potatoes growing in a supermarket bag

Tomatoes in the greenhouse, there are two or three varieties in all.  I think there is a plum tomato and a Tigrella, plus either Gardener's Delight or Moneymaker.

The first ripened tomatoes - Mini Munch, these were from a packet of seeds for children with Mr Men on the packet.

The first raspberries - only a handful so far.  They have gone into a summer pudding with strawberries from the garden and some black cherries from Kent, bought from the local Co-op.

  1. That's amazing, so many wonderful things in your garden. 😊 Don't the birds look so puffed up and feathery, I wonder if they are feeling cold! It's good to see the fox, he's got his eye on something, hasn't he or maybe he's a she. Lovely flowers and some tasty veg and fruit on the way. Our tomatoes are just beginning to turn, another couple of days to go, I think. 😊

    1. Thank you it's a wonder everything hasn't been blown or washed away. The birds have gone through lots of food this last week and the foxes have been coming earlier and earlier for their food (we feed them dog food and dog biscuits) our tomatoes aren't doing as well this year as last:)

  2. Lovely photos - you have so many wonderful plants in your garden and the home grown produce looks delicious. We're growing some potates in large bags this year too and have just picked the first swede! :) Thankfully, we finally managed to get some compost delivered last week. Have a good week.

    1. It's good to have some home grown produce, lettuce and cabbage seem to have grown well so far. We used the bags the Tesco delivery came in as it seemed a shame not to reuse them in some way, others will be filled with stuff for a charity shop when we feel safe enough to deliver them. Glad you managed to get some compost, we ventured to a local small garden centre today for compost, bird food and tomato feed, very quiet and well organised. You too have a good week:)

    2. Thanks Rosie. OH was planning to use supermarket bags for our potatoes too. Then my son orderd a "kit" which included everything apart from compost!! He thought they sent that too! Still all has worked out ok as we had some old compost left and it was just enough!

  3. Love the visitors to your garden, what a delight. The tomatoes are amazing, mine are not ready yet but I am hopeful. The weather hasn't been brilliant here either winds, rain and cool temperatures doesn't feel like Summer at all. Hope things improve.

    1. We have had some lovely visitors over the last few months. It seems more than usual but perhaps that is because I'm home more to see them all. Weather not too good here either I've had to dry laundry inside again. I hope we see some warmer days soon:)

    1. Thank you, they have appeared more regularly here this year too, the male bullfinch sits on the feeder for ages, the female tends to go on the floor underneath and pick up all the bits the other birds have dropped:)

  6. Your garden looks very productive Rosie. I am yet to have ripened tomatoes but am looking forward to when I do. Lovely seeing all the birds. I like the shape of the Bullfinch - very rotund! Hope it is less windy there today. The wind has been shocking down here the last few days blowing everything over! :)

    1. The rain and wind has stopped us working in the garden for a few days, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well. We need some sunshine to ripen the tomatoes. Hope the wind has died down now:)
