Five on Friday

It's Friday so I'm joining in with  Amy at Love Made my Home for this week's Five on Friday.  Click on the link at the bottom of this post to find others who are joining in too.
Just a few of the birds I've spotted this week whilst out and about with my camera.


 1.  A motley assortment of runner ducks in the walled garden at Sugnall, near Eccleshall, Staffordshire.


2. Black Swans on the lake at Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.  They appeared, or at least we first saw them, in the summer and they seem to be staying around.  I'd never seen them on the lake before.


3.  Heron at the side of the lake at Trentham Gardens near the cascade of water that runs down towards the River Trent.

4.  Hens - in the small show gardens at Trentham this pair are called Henry and Barbara.  I don't know what breed of hen they are.


5.  Crow in a tree again at Trentham Gardens

      Thanks, we've watched the heron in that spot since it was a youngster - all grown up now in its adult plumage:)

    I don't think I've ever seen a black swan outside of a zoo, so exotic looking.

      I first saw them a few years ago at Hodnet Gardens which isn't too far away from us just into Shropshire, it's the first time I've seen them at Trentham:)

    Many beautiful birds! I love black swans, they come from Australia as you know I am sure, but that is why I love them! Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend - perhaps with some more bird spotting! xx

      I always like to get out and about looking for birds, the swans are very special aren't they? I did now they were brought over here from Australia - not sure when. I expect this pair have come from either nearby Rocester or Hodnet both of which have several black swan families:)

      Ha Ha - yes they were full of mischief - I know geese are a 'gaggle' but these were a gaggle or rabble of ducks as they kept running all over the garden:)

    I've seen art of ducks who stand like that, but have never seen an actual "runner duck." Their stance is very odd! Love the grey hen! Great photos.

      The chickens have been there a few years now and I always look for them, only recently learned their nbames though:)

    What an interesting and beautiful Five! Lovely images! The photo of the crow is very beautiful and the black swans look fascinating. I didn't know they come from Australia!

      Yes, the black sawns were introduced here from Australia, they are stunning aren't they?:)

    Lovely to see all the different birds that you have 'captured' not literally of course. I kept ducks for many years, never runners though - they are so comical.

    Great photos Rosie. The last time I saw a heron up close, I was at the helm of a boat and managed to run us aground! It took us six hours to get off (no tide to assist, as it was on a lake). Marie x
