Where has October gone? It has been a lovely month, wonderful seasonal colours and mostly quite warm and dry but I was halfway through the month and realised that I hadn't thought about taking photos for the hunt. Last week I managed to get some photos locally at Middleport Pottery where we called for refreshment after a canal side walk and also a few at Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire on our way to visit someone in hospital. So I'm happy to be
joining in with the October Photo Scavenger Hunt kindly organised by greenthumb at Made with Love just click on the link to find other participants.
Question
There is a question at the bottom of this information board near the Pater Noster lift at Middleport Pottery, Middleport, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
Cream
A piece of Leeds Creamware in the shop at Middleport Pottery
Number
We sat at table number five for our coffee in the cafe at Middleport Pottery
Lattice
Familiar
Smoke coming from chimneys is a familiar sight from my childhood, you don't see it often these days. This is the little station at Consall on the Churnet Valley Steam Railway, Staffordshire. I could also have used the photos of Bolsover castle as familiar because I grew up in a village just a couple of miles away and the castle on its hill is a familiar site.
Ring
In the visitor centre in Middleport pottery they have telephones on the desks that ring as you approach them, you can answer and press numbers to listen to the memories of people who used to work there.
Today
A wet garden as seen through our kitchen window - this is my view as I stand washing the pots.

Down
Looking down

Writing
Lovely handwriting on the notes and receipts in the letter racks at the visitor centre at Middleport Pottery.
Many
There were lots of little fallen crab apples on the ground as we walked locally at the Consall Nature Reserve.
Broken
A broken tree at Consall Nature Reserve
Whatever you Want
Beautiful Copper Beech tree at Bolsover Castle, Bolsover, Derbyshire.
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else has been taking photos of this month.

What great interpretations of each of these Rosie. Such nice shots of your various outings ... loved the two tea mugs on No. 5 table, and that copper beech in the last shot is magnificent!! Enjoy your weekend :)
ReplyDeleteWendy

That is a lovely little tation house adn i still have an open fire alhtough I do not lite it all the time. I love the pottery adn I am sure the coffeewas lovely.Have a great month ahead
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret - whenere we sat to have the coffee was a wood burning stove so it was a bit of a week for open and warm fires:)
DeleteThat beech tree is beautiful! That was a great find for 'writing' and I like familiar and ring too. Good collection!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Louise - I did rush towards the end to get a lot of the photos - Middleport was a good source for some of the topics:)
DeleteLovely selection with some perfect choices. Loved the old letters, and thought the telephone idea was a great one. How can you ever go wrong when you can post a photo taken from a castle? On to November...
ReplyDeleteYes, I wonder what November's topics will be! Glad you liked the photos - I love the old phones:)
DeleteLovely photographs Rosie. Will you be watching the The Great British Throwdown? Or maybe I have the title wrong? It amazes me that so few local people know Middleport pottery, but then again, it isn't the easiest place to find
ReplyDeleteWe always park at Westport Lake and walk down the canalside to Middleport as the car park there fills up very quickly. I will give the tv show a go and see what it is like. When we were at the pottery earlier in the year there was a drone flying up and down filming the area around and outside the pottery, I wonder if it was connected to the show?:)
DeleteAll beautiful and so nostalgic. That little station is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Val - the little station is lovely:)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous month you've had!
ReplyDeleteIt has been lovely, now into misty and damp November which with January and February are my least favourite months:)
DeleteWell done, you found them all, I don't know how you manage it. Lovely photos too. There's a paternoster lift in Essex University library for people/students! :-)
ReplyDeleteThose lifts are a bit scary. I did rush at the end to find some of the hunt's topics but Middleport was good for quite a few of them:)
DeleteI love to see all the Scavenger Hunters different takes on the words - a lovely selection of photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine - glad you enjoyed the photos:)
DeleteOctober? Completely missed it, it was that quick! I love the smoke rising from the chimney, I can imagine how comforting the smell was. Have a wonderful week xx
ReplyDeleteOctober shot by so quickly didn't it? I think because it was such a lovely month with the weather we had and the colours in the trees and hedgerows:)
DeleteLovely selection of photos Rosie, I use to enjoy doing the photo scavenger hunts but I am finding it hard enough to keep up with my everyday life blog as it is! I especially like your 'writing' one and the copper beech, we have some lovely autumn colour this year don't we? xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lyn - yes it has been a lovely Autumn so many lovely colours:)
DeleteAn interesting collection of photos for October's scavenger hunt. The creamware pottery is beautiful and the old station evocative of times past. You've visited some lovely places. It has reminded me that we haven't been to Bolsover for some time and it's well worth going there.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much history in and around Bolsover now I live away from the area I appreciate it more and more. I think when I was younger I took it all for granted and the familiarity of it was to be escaped from rather than embraced:)
DeleteI really enjoyed being out and about with you in your selections. My favourites are the old telephone and the lovely writing. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie - the telephones are such a good idea aren't they?:)
DeleteGreat photos. I love that beautiful old copper beech - it is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz - the copper beech is splendid isn't it?:)
DeleteIt's my first time participating and I am enjoying seeing everyone's choices.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Jackie, glad you enjoyed your visit, I will pop over and see what your choices for October are:)
DeleteThe pottery at table number five is beautiful. The old telephone and the lovely handwriting were perfect for the prompts. And a lovely coppery beach tree too.:) Fab pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shazza - glad you enjoyed the photos, the telephones are wonderful aren't they?:)
DeleteI loved the writing and the telephone - what a fabulous idea to have recorded memories on it. Bolsover was on the Antiques Roadshow the other day - lovely to see your pictures of it. And the cream pottery ware is beautiful.

Fil’s Place - Old songs and Memories
Thanks Fil, glad you enjoyed the photos. The telephones are a good idea aren't they? I missed Bolsover Castle on antiques road show, I daresay I will catch it later, saw it on Lucy Worsley's programme about the horses though:)
DeleteCream ware was inspired! Beautiful handwriting, what a shame that skill has virtually been lost.
ReplyDeleteI know, because i've always been a typist and then computer keyboards my handwriting is really poor now, I'd love to practice more to get it back to how it was:)
DeleteI am in awe of the variety of interpretations people come up with in the scavenger hunt. I love the rich colors in your photos and the way you have used light to striking effect, Rosie. The old rotary dial phone brought back so many memories of the countless times I used one. Happy hunting in November!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love the old phones our first phone when I was a child was a dial one but not quite as old as those:)
DeleteIt looks like October was a wonderful month with some delightful sights. I love the little station and the traditional telephone. How nice to be able to listen to the memories of those who worked there in the past. Thanks for sharing Rosie. Marie x
