The Wildflower meadows at Trentham are looking wonderful at the moment.
These pollinator friendly displays are by Pictorial Meadows and were originally designed by Professor Nigel Dunnett from the University of Sheffield.
It was a joy to walk amongst them. They sparkled in the weak sunshine after the gentle rain earlier this morning.
Bees and butterflies hovered everywhere.
Mostly large whites and wood browns. It was lovely to see the butterflies as we haven't seen many this year.
We also spotted a Skipper. Is it a small Skipper? I wonder as there are several different ones.
What a lovely first step into the month of July.

DeleteLovely photos Rosie and what wonderful pollinator friendly meadows. So many beautiful species of flower . It is hard to tell the skippers apart unless you get a really good view. I know I struggle. I still haven't for certain spotted an Essex Skipper. Trouble is with butterflies they rarely stop still for long so you did well to get a photo :)

DeleteWhat beautiful meadows to walk through. I love the mix of shapes and colours in the flowers. Our butterflies are different - I've been seeing a lot of Swallowtails after missing them for several years.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorrie, they are lovely colour schemes and change throughout the season. How wonderful to have swallowtail butterflies, we see fewer and fewer butterflies here which is worrying:)

DeleteThose wildflower meadows look wonderful at Trentham gardens and really good news for the insects. We started a small meadow area at the bottom of our garden and it was doing quite well. It suffered while we were away but I'm hoping that the plants will have set seed and we will have new surprises for next year.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley, there were so many insects enjoying those wildflowers, as well as us and lots of other photographers were. We tried a few years ago to create a small meadow at the top of the garden, we have oxeye daisies still but the other flowers never took I hope you are successful with yours:)
