Rainy Days

Rainy days can be a nuisance but they can also be quite beautifulTwice this week we have got drenched whilst out walking even with weather coats and umbrellas. Today was just such a day.

The car park at the Dorothy Clive Gardens was busier than we thought they would be in such inclement weather. The friendly person at the entrance told us there were actually very few visitors and that the cars belonged to the 'Wednesday Weeders'. I guess the volunteer weeders are used to all weathers.  The gardens were looking wonderful.

We explored the bottom half of the garden in lovely sunlight but the skies soon darkened and the heavens opened.  We found a dry space in the coffee shop so early elevenses were in order.  Then it was out again in weak sunshine to enjoy the rest of the gardens.

The flower borders were looking so beautiful.  Alliums, Astrantia, roses, peonies and foxgloves.  All a treat for the eyes and a mindful escape from the woes of the world.  The colours and colour combinations were so attractive.

Of course I took far too many photos, so I've selected just a few of my favourites.
All for now

  1. Your photos are absolutely stunning! I do love the rain, especially after a very hot and humid stretch.
The waterfall is magical, I can almost hear it and feel the splash of fresh, cool water. Thank you so much for sharing, and warm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada.

  2. Lovely photos of the garden and June flowers. I must admit I have a real fondness for astrantia in particular. It is such a lovely time of year to visit a garden. Sorry though about the rain. It has been so rainy recently but perhaps we will get some dryer days next week.

    1. Thank you Caroline. We had a white Astrantia for a couple of years but this year it has disappeared, I don't think they like our soil here. Hoping for some dryer days soon as the garden is sodden and things need doing out there, also fed up of not being able to dry laundry outside, lots of soggy birds and squirrels out today:)

  4. Sometimes photos come out so much better when it's a bit on the gloomy side, yours are lovely. Well done to the Wednesday Weeders, they must be keen to turn up in the rain. I see you are determined to 'do' all the Dorothy's this month! 😊

    1. Thank you CK, I could do with a couple of those Wednesday Weeders in my garden - well any day will do really. Ha,Ha yes, another Dorothy, I wonder if I can find anymore. As a child I knew two Dorothys both friends of my Mum, one was called Aunty Dorothy the other Aunty Dot:)

  5. Rainy days like that often end up giving the most memorable garden visits, especially when the weather keeps shifting between downpour and brief sunlight.

  7. Lovely photos! We won't be getting any rain until October so, for me, a rainy day, is a small miracle and very welcome.
