I can't quite believe that it is November already.
The clocks were put back by an hour the last weekend in October making dusk an hour earlier. Lamps are switched on to relieve the gloom and the blinds are closed against the growing dark outside.
Fireworks sound most evenings, do they bother Mr Fox?
He visits at dusk, his lovely red coat doesn't stand out in the fading light, but I can see him through the kitchen window as I stand in front of the sink clearing away the pots and pans from our evening meal. The photo above was taken a couple of weeks ago. He sits at the top of the garden and relaxes for a while. A few days ago he brought another fox with him, I assume it is a vixen and that he has chosen his mate for this season.
It's a time for brisk and breezy walks. Yesterday we strolled around Westport Lake and down by the canal.
The Autumnal Trees were looking wonderful.
Leaves crackled and crunched underfoot.
Squirrels bustled around finding scraps to eat, usually from the seeds left out for the birds.
We always divert from the main path through the gate you can see on the right of the photo and walk around the other smaller lakes and ponds in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the elusive Kingfisher.
A black headed gull in its winter plumage.
An assortment of ducks on the smaller lake. The two dark ones are Cayuga ducks. Paul took the photo above as my camera decided to give up at this point. The battery has been running down quickly even after being charged so a new battery has been ordered.
There's still lots of interesting fungi about.
I'll be back soon with a visit we made to Kedleston Hall last Wednesday to see Luke Jerram's Helios.

Hello Rosie,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful autumnal images you post here. How lovely to be surrounded by this wonderful environment. It is always a joy to see the seasons turn and notice how the natural world takes on different colours and moods.
Thank you Jane and Lance. Everywhere looks so beautiful at the moment and all the Autumnal colours are at their best, it is quite a joy to see all the trees and hedgerows along roads, paths and in gardens too:)
DeleteA lovely calendar picture. It has gone so autumnal recently. The walk by the lake and canal looks really lovely. Good to see you still have a fox visiting. We don't get so many visits these days. So glad you have seen Helios and I look forward to the photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, we drove out to Uttoxeter today and the country roads were so beautiful, we had to avoid loads of young pheasants on the lanes too. Mr Fox waits each evening for his bowl of dog meat, I expect we aren't the only household feeding them. Helios was wonderful, I enjoyed seeing it and the music accompanying it too:)
DeleteLove the fox, he looks so relaxed on your back lawn. Definitely Autumn for you, especially with all that fungi. Still cool here at the moment & all of 11deg with a bitterly cold wind. We've seen fungi again in a few places too. Thanks for the lovely snaps, take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan, this Fox seems to feel safe in our garden, more so than any others we have had visit us. I hope warmer weather comes your way soon. Take care:)
DeleteIt looks very autumnal around your way, Rosie. It felt strange to write the date when at work, yesterday. This year has gone so quickly. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Jules. It is very autumnal now, our drive out this morning was lovely, the hedgerows were a stunning colour. Yes, the whole year has rushed by for us too:)
DeleteLook at Mr Fox sitting there as happy as can be despite the fireworks. I love the squirrels when they sit up with their white 'aprons' on show eating something tasty. It's been a very mild start to November and so beautiful too. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you CK. I always wonder how the wildlife cope with all the fireworks, Mr Fox seemed okay with them. Yes, the squirrels are cute, the ones that visit out garden like the conkers from next door's Horse Chestnut tree. It has been very mild so far this month:)
DeleteI always hate to fall back as I dislike how early it gets dark. I wish we could just keep it daily light savings all year. Great picture of your fox friend. Looks like you had a nice walk and saw some pretty leaf color. Ours doesn't seem as pretty this year, probably due to the extreme heat and everything blooming and dying too early landscape wise. I'm enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list to catch up, as I've been away from blogging for too many months. It's nice to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandy, good to hear from you and glad you are back blogging again. Our fall or Autumn has been very pretty this year and the colours are still around into this month to keep it cheerful a while longer:)
DeleteI am one who enjoys this time, the slow closing of the year. I guess our flowers are at an end as a deep freeze is expected this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Granny Sue, it is a strange time of year, beautiful yet poignant in many ways. We still have a few garden flowers as the mild weather has encouraged another flowering. I expect we too will have colder weather soon:)
DeleteAutumn walks are the best. It’s lovely to see mr fox in your garden especially as you do your dishes. B x
ReplyDeleteThank you B. We are always pleased to see Mr Fox, he arrives in darkness now but doesn't seem to mind us putting the outside lights on for a while:)
DeleteLovely autumnal photos Rosie. Hope you have a nice cosy weekend. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Simone. Hope all is well, have a lovely weekend:)
