This Week

 Monday

We walked at Trentham as we usually do at least once a week.

We walked around the lake and then up through the gardens.  Festive displays had arrived but I'll show those in a later post.

There were three female pheasants down by the lake.  I managed to photograph one of them, they were well camouflaged.

The beavers have been busy.   Not seen them yet.

 Tuesday

The snow came quietly and softly overnight

Above and below - photos taken around 8a.m. from our bedroom window of the back garden.

The now leafless Tulip Tree covered in snow

 Wednesday

Was a stay at home snow day.  I'm so glad there were no medical appointments this week. I had a hospital appointment last week and have another appointment next week. There was no pressure to be out and about as the roads up here on our little hill seem worse than further down towards town. The snow takes twice as long to melt. The main roads were gritted.  Ironing done.

Thursday

A walk on the Brampton in Newcastle-under-Lyme and a visit to a local art exhibition in the Museum.

To me this seemed like the coldest day of the week.  Both leaves and snow crunched underfoot.

The Open Art and Craft exhibition featuring local artists is on show until 22nd December.

Friday

Another walk this time at Westport Lake followed by lunch at Middleport Pottery.

The frozen ponds near the large lake.

One of the shops on the first floor.  Tables were set with different designs.

Hot and delicious Cauliflower and Broccoli soup.

Middleport Pottery and Museum is a short walk from Westport Lake down the canal.

Today, Saturday another stay at home day keeping out of the way of the storm which seems to have arrived here.  I can hear the rain on the conservatory roof and the wind rattling the door knocker on the front door. Reading A Refiner's Fire by Donna Leon, her latest Commissario Brunetti mystery set in Venice and listening to Max Richter's recomposition of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.  Spring is so very beautiful.

Take care, stay safe and warm. Have a good weekend.

  1. An assortment of weather conditions! We had a little dusting of snow mid week but it didn't settle. Your days out look wonderful Rosie. I bet the soup was particularly cheering on such a cold day. I have been out this morning but will stay in the rest of the day. I can hear the wind whipping up! x

    1. Thank you Simone, yes we've had a bit of all weathers this week. We've still tried to get out and about for fresh air and exercise although this weekend has been spent around the house as the wind and rain are quite strong. Stay warm:)

  2. A great post Rosie. You certainly have had a lot of snow, everywhere looks so pretty and good job it missed your hospital appointments, I hope the one you had went well. We've only had a few flakes here and as for the storm it was drizzly with a slight breeze but I expect it will be our turn next time. You've done well to enjoy your walks in the sun. The Archers is full of beavers at the moment, they are the in thing. I've just finished a Donna Leon Unto Us is Born a Son, I'll have to look out for the new one. Keep cosy 😊

    2. Thank you CK. I'm glad I had no appointments this week, we try to get out and about on most days for walking and shopping etc. It's ages since I listened to The Archers, interesting about the beavers I expect opinion is divided. Ha - yes I nearly wrote A Refiner's Tale instead of Fire when I typed the book title, thinking of Canterbury Tales perhaps:)

  3. The latest Donna Leon is wonderful. So lovely to escape through her books. I’ve been thinking of you the last few days with the snowy weather. You’ve certainly had a lot. Lovely photos. B x

    1. Thank you B I love the descriptions of the walks through the city and the vaporetto rides, the cafes and buildings as much as the actual mystery. The snow is now completely washed away, thank goodness as we have a long journey to make later this week for a friend's birthday- must be wary of flooding though:)

  4. You have had some lovely outings this week Rosie and great to hear there are beavers at Trentham - hope you manage to see one soon. The Art and Craft Exhibition looks good and the soup delicious :) We had snow here too and it was SO cold - now wet and windy!! Sorry about the hospital appointments - I sympathise (I had one last week and a procedure to be carried out week after next which I am dreading). Every week either my son or husband or I seem to get hauled into the GP's surgery for yet another blood test and I have reviews due on both my repeat prescriptions :( It is never ending and I hate sitting in crowded unventilated waiting rooms! I'm reading an Elly Griffiths book at the moment - new series for me featuring Harbinder Kaur.

    1. Thank you RR, we will have to book one of the late evening Beaver Safari trails next Spring or Summer to see them. The soup was wonderful and just right for such a cold day. I went to the hospital last week and checked in only to find that the department was closed for refurbishment, I should have had another letter but didn't I took a phone call with the doctor in the hospital, near the lifts! It worked out okay in the end as I was there to collect my next lot of medicine from the pharmacy which I needed for the next day. Sorry to hear that your problems are still on going especially the procedure you are not looking forward to, I hope all goes well. I too hate the waiting rooms - anywhere too crowded in fact. Haven't been to a cinema or theatre since before Covid - I do miss theatre visits. I enjoy EG's Harbinder Kaur books, not sure if there are three or four. There are also stories featuring her and Ruth and Nelson in The Man in Black. Apparently her new series is out next year - time travel detectives. Not sure about those:)

    1. Thank you Jules for your visit and comment. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, we have an annual pass for Trentham gardens which means we can go in as often as we like, once or twice a week, a lot of people on their photography F/B page go in nearly every day. We tend to avoid weekends though as they get very busy:)
