Update and Recent Reading

Blogging has taken a back seat so far this year as I've not been well again.  I have another blood clot in my lungs so I'm back on anti-coagulants this time indefinitely. Thankfully  not the injections I had for six months last year but a new oral drug.  I have a medical emergency card to carry and a bracelet for my wrist which I make sure to wear if we leave the house.

I've been reading quite a bit especially in the afternoons.

Above and below two books from the e-library.  The Pricilla Masters book has been read.  I love her Joanna Piercy books set in nearby Leek and also her Martha Gunn books which are set in Shrewsbury. This is a one off novel set in another nearby town - Stone.  I've still to read the Janice Hallet book.  I enjoyed her first two novels  The Appeal andThe Twyford Code so I'm looking forward to this one.

Below two books and an audio book from the library.  I've read the two books and have got to disc five of the nine discs that make up the book.  I tend to listen later in the day near bedtime.

Below a is lovely present from dear friends who wanted to cheer me up.

What a thoughtful gift and what a lovely book this is.  To read through, to dip into and to just sit and look at the illustrations.  You know who you are - I've already said thank you but I'll say it again.

All for now.

  2. I am so sorry you haven't been well. Reading and resting seem to be a good prescription. I wonder if those books are available here in the US.

    1. Thank you Granny Sue. I wonder about the books being availble for you? Some are better than others. The Mike Hollow books are set in 1940s London during the blitz:)

    1. Thank you RR, I was upset when I was diagnosed with a second clot but I'm being looked after with modern medicine (not Warferin) and by follow up phone calls and another scan on Tuesday evening. The gift from friends is a lovely book to keep reading and dipping into:)

  4. Hope you are feeling better soon. Glad there is an alternative to injections. Always love your book recommendations. I’ll check those titles out. Just wading through the latest Strike novel from the library. Just over 1000 pages long thank goodness for rainy days :). B x

    1. Thank you B yes the injections were a pain in both senses, the medicine is better. I did read the Strike novel although it took ages and I had to use a magnifying glass for the 'on-line' conversations:)

    1. Thank you Linda, I'm getting good treatment at the moment. Managed a short walk today (about 4,000 steps) and feel better for it. I'm hoping when things settle down I'll be able to get back to something nearer to normal:)

    1. Thank you CK. I put both posts up at the same time so you saw it straight away. I hope the drugs will work out as they lessen the dose over the next few months even though I will always have to take them. Lots of lovely books to read, I still have some reserved at the library too. Snow is fast disappearing here now:)

  8. So sorry you aren't well once again - I hope you get better soon - I was offered the newer drugs instead of Warfarin as a thinner, thank goodness for alternative options. I haven't read any books by Mike Hollow, are they any good? I like when books are shown as I read so many, I usually choose those on Kindle when they're 99p or free and I've found loads to enjoy that way. Cheerio for now, I look forward to your next post and hope you make a good recovery. Elaine

    1. Hello Elaine, thank you for leaving a comment. Yes, I was grateful for the new drug - Apixaban rather than Warfarin, I hope it works and for you too. The Mike Hollow books are set in London during the blitz of 1940, the Detective Inspector is a WWI veteran and has a younger DC to help him. I enjoy them and have read about four so far. They are a bit like Foyle's War in that detection of ordinary crimes still carries on regardless of the war. I too look for 99p or £1.99 offers on Kindle and have found many new authors that way:)
