A Snowdrop Walk

Yesterday we decided to drive the few miles from here to Ashbourne and then just that little bit further to Hopton Hall in the village of Carsington.

It was a little early as the snowdrops were just in bud and were exepected to be at their best next week but it was a joy to see them. So lovely to walk along the trail and into the walled garden too.  There seemed to be only us there plus one other couple with whom we stopped for a chat along the way.  They were visiting from the South West.

It was so good to be out in the fresh air.  I'll let the photos take over.

We sat with a warm drink from the outside catering area.  Overlooking the Ha Ha and the row of trees above.  The air was cold and dry and all was peaceful.

I'm so glad we made the effort to visit.

  1. It's great to see the snowdrops. We probably have about another six weeks until we see them here.

  2. What a lovely garden & the curved brick walls are beautiful. The fungi encrusted tree stump caught my eye as well as the moss covered seating corner, all so rustic. Thanks for sharing, take care & hugs.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the photos, Susan. It is a beautiful garden and opens again for roses in the summer. I loved the tree stump with all the moss and fungi and the seating area with old garden implements, there were a few little corners like that:)

    1. It was beautiful and such a bonus it was quiet, I expect by the end of the month it will be far busier so I'm glad we went early. It was good to get out and about:)

  6. The snowdrops are beautiful. This is the first time I have heard or seen such flowers. Isn't it amazing that a dead tree stump can still provide life for moss and fungi. Nothing is wasted in nature, just recycled!

    1. Snowdrops are such pretty, delicate flowers, their pure whiteness makes them hard to photograph. The fungus and moss on the stump was wonderful:)

  7. It can take the effort to get out sometimes but as you say, it was worth it! It really looks like we are turning a corner as we head towards spring. I like the look of the area up the 3 steps to the bench with the wall behind -I wonder why it is raised up? Could something be secreted beneath? :)

    1. I wonder too. The area with the steps is just by the entrance to the lower walled garden. Perhaps a place where there was a bigger seat to look out over the garden or a small garden building of some kind? Something to capture the imagination:)
