Saturday's Walk

Shall we take a walk?

It sounds like a good idea whilst the weather is still quite warm for this time of year but before we go I have to mention that I'm having trouble leaving comments on some of your blogs.  This has been happening for a couple of weeks now.  When I click in the box to make a comment on your posts the cursor doesn't appear, what I call a 'dead click.'  On some blogs I've been able to make comments again after a few days but others I still can't comment at all. So apologies, I have been visiting and reading, hopefully things will resolve themselves soon.

Right, lets go for that walk.  We're at Ilam Park in the Peak District which is just over the hill from the more popular and sometimes very crowded Dovedale.

I've taken you here quite a few times over the years so I'll let the photos do most of the talking.

One of my favourite views from Ilam Hall (now a Youth Hostel) towards the church of the Holy Cross.

Above the distinctive flat top of Thorpe Cloud. Below a few photos of parts of the Hall.

It was built for Jesse Watts-Russell in 1821.  It replaced an earlier 16th century building.

Above the Pepperpot Tower and below St Bertram's Bridge.  St Bertram's tomb is in the church.  The bridge crosses the River Manifold.

There was a buzzard soaring overhead as we walked.  It was being harassed by crows.

The paths were strewn with crunchy leaves.

A view of the hall from the bridge.

The River Manifold.

Two Saxon Crosses in the churchyard.

Another Saxon Cross known as the Battle Stone along the path by the river.

These two sheep made me smile.

All for now.  Take care.

  1. Wonder place to walk, loved the views. I got a chuckle out of sheep each faced a different direction, lol. No walking for me today. Cold, Wet, and ugly. Maybe tomorrow. Hope the comment thing gets resolved. I've not had that problem, but have noticed so many of us look like we have ghosts following us now, as so many profile pictures don't show up. I don't know what the problem is. I notice you have the issue too, as I look at your followers widget. I've attempted to see what the problem is, without success.

Do swing by for a visit.

    1. Hello Sandy, thank you for leaving a comment. I've just visited your lovely blog but couldn't leave a comment. The followers problem is as strange as the comments one. I see from your blog that you are interested in family history as am I, I haven't done much on them lately though. I'm waiting for the 1921 UK census to be put on line early next year:)

  2. Just my cup of tea, Rosie, a real breath of fresh air with plenty to see and enjoy. The leaves have decided to fall these last couple of days, they are quite deep and crispy now aren't they. 😊

    1. Glad you enjoyed the walk. Yes, the leaves are lovely and crisp to walk in. We had the first frost of the season this morning. I still seem to able to leave a comment on your blog but can't leave comments at Costal Ripples and A Rich Tapestry, two more of my favourites:)

I hope you resolve the blogger comment problem - the one came through ok on my last post so thank you.

I love the chimneys on the hall and those Saxon crosses are fascinating.

    Take care :)

    1. Thank you RR. I always love walking at Ilam it is such a special place. I seem to be able to comment on your blog for now, but if I don't comment you'll know why. I'm keeping my fingers crossed whatever the problem is it will resolve itself. I loved the chimneys on the hall, they stood out in the bright light also the Saxon crosses, I must try and find out more about them. Take care:)

  4. What a lovely walk and thanks for sharing. We'd love to have places like that to visit and stroll around. I too have had a few computer problems with commenting & even getting some of my regular blogs to come up at all. Have a good week, take care & hugs.

  5. Beautiful autumn shots.

Blogger seems to have many problems. Some happen to some people and others don't. For more than a year I've been forced to do photo captchas each week for over half the week. And some comments don't take, so I have to go back several hours later and redo them.

What started before the weekend is my reading list won't load a list beyond a number of hours old, say nine or ten.

A good number of active blogs I read, I tend to read by entering the blog title name anyway, so the last couple of days I've been reading the ones in that several hours stretch that I don't normally do that, two or three times in the day. Then I'll read the ones I manually enter. The first day I had to go blog by blog to see which ones had posted, since that at least worked and reminded me that some bloggers just don't post anymore. I hope it clears up soon.

    1. Thank you William. There does seem to be one or two problems at the moment. Sometimes I go into a blog from my side-bar and sometimes from the reading list neither seems to make a different to whether I can leave a comment or not. All very strange. Your blog is one of the ones where I can't comment at the moment, I have tried several times over the last few days. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whatever the fault is it will be rectified soon:)

    1. Hello Kim, thank you for visiting and leaving a lovely comment. I have visited your blog and read about the lovely Hansel and Gretel but unfortunately I couldn't leave a comment:)

  7. The dry weather continues in our area too which always makes a walk more enjoyable. Ilam Park must be a quiet place to walk and the house with the tall chimneys adds to the interesting scene. I hope the blogging issue gets sorted. Wishing you a good week.

    1. We woke up to a frost this morning although the sun is out and warm now. I always find Ilam so relaxing, it's a special place. I've been unable to leave a comment on your last post, Linda. I hope your flu jabs go well, we have our booster ones tomorrow. Hope you too have a good week:)

  8. That looks like a lovely place to visit Rosie. The way the sheep are aligned remind me of a push me - pull you animal that was in Dr Dolittle (I think!) I took my blogs down at the end of October. I may start them up again but I was despondent with little interest shown in the posts and the fact that I don't know who is reading them. My brother-in-law once commented to me when I saw him about my blog being depressing and I had no idea he read it! Here's looking forward to the weekend. x

    1. Yes, it does look like 'push me pull you' doesn't it? I've only just noticed that you had taken your blog down, Simone. I knew I hadn't seen a post in my readers list for ages. I hope you do start up again - we've both been blogging for such a long time now haven't we? I know what you mean about not knowing who is looking at your blog. I've had 138 views on this post and eight comments, sixteen if you count my replies. I know of four friends who read my blog and only one of them has their own blog, the others can't comment but tell me in e-mails and lettes that they are keeping up with what I have been doing. It's been a lovely day today but I think cold and windy weather is on the way for us here. Have a lovely weekend and take care:)

    1. They do, sometimes it happens over here too when Buzzards pass over the gardens. It is a lovely place to walk especially at this timeof year. It lends itself to the festive season. Take care:)
