A Few Daffodils

It's amazing how one bunch of daffodils from the local Co-op can cheer up a kitchen window when it is cold and bleak outside.

I've been 'under the weather' and 'in the wars' - aren't these old sayings great for summing things up - this week.  I felt ill for two days after my Covid vaccination on Monday.  It started with a tight chest, bad headache and pain across my back between the shoulder blades.  I still have a sore and red arm. Apparently it is good to have a reaction as apparently it shows your immune system is working well.   Mmm....  far better to have some side effects from the vaccine than have the virus itself though and I'm grateful to have received it.

There have been some strange and wonderful skies recently, it's like looking at other worlds sometimes.

Yesterday we went for a walk as I was fed up with being indoors and I stupidly slipped on ice and fell flat on my back, I've hurt my elbows, shoulders and neck, luckily my head was well protected by both woolly hat and the hood of my winter coat.  I haven't had a headache or dizzy spells so I'm assuming I'm okay although I ache all over today so am staying warm indoors.

A photo from the walk.  You can see how icy it is.

Take care everyone and have a good weekend.

  1. Hope you're soon feeling better. Daffodils do brighten things up at this time of year. My brother had his jab yesterday (and he's younger than me!) and had a slight headache today but is otherwise fine. I'm still waiting to be contacted.

    1. It all seems quite haphazard with ages and age groups, I had an NHS letter first so I followed up the bookings then three days later had a call from our doctor's surgery to book. For my husband it was the other way around he got called by the surgery and then a few days alter received the NHS letter. Hope you get contacted soon:)

  2. Oh dear Rosie! It's certainly not been your week! I've heard about a few people reacting to the vaccine but hopefully you are through the worst of that now. My Auntie had her arm swell up but other than that no other ill effects. I am sorry to hear that you fell over. I just don't want to chance going out at the moment in case I fall too. It is good that you were wrapped up well to brace the impact. The daffodils add a lovely splash of colour and look good against the pale vase. Hope you have a good weekend. Stay in and stay safe! :)

    1. Not a good week Simone, I hope yours has been better. I just went from vertical to horizontal in a split second and am still aching especially shoulders and neck. My arm is still sore from the jab which was a week ago today. The daffodils have gone now but they were lovely at the time:)

  4. So sorry about the fall and not feeling well after covid vaccine. Hope you fully recover from both soon. We had our vaccine yesterday. Apart from a bit of a sore arm and feeling tired (nothing new these days with poor sleeping!) I feel fine but OH felt really rough this morning and has only just got dressed. He felt nauseous, bad headache and so dizzy he actually fainted on the landing! He feels a little better now dizziness and nausea has gone but still slight headache and feels a bit "out of it".

Your daffodils look lovely and so cheering in these gloomy days. I love the last photo of your walk. I hope you feel much better soon. Take care and stay safe and well.

    1. Just one thing after another last week, let's hope this one will be better. So sorry your OH had such a bad reaction, it must have been worrying. Good job he wasn't on the stairs when he felt dizzy. I still feel slightly 'vacant' but that could be the fall too. Daffs are always cheering aren't they? Stay safe:)

  5. I agree about the daffodils. I bought 2 bunches from Lidl 2 weeks ago and they were lovely to look at.
Glad you've had the vaccine- my Dad had it last week too.
Ahrgh, I'm sorry about your fall. I slipped in the ice about 10 years ago (and broke my wrist) and I am so careful now- I wear metal snowgrips!

    1. Thank you Kezzie, I'm so glad I didn't break anything when I fell. I did hear a crack but it was the ice. Snowgrips are a good idea. The daffs have gone over now but I shall look out for more as they are so cheering:)

  6. Your daffodils certainly bring some cheer especially when you have been feeling rough. A slip when out walking really is an upsetting experience. I've done the same thing on slushy snow and now won't risk it except where a path is clear and dry. I wouldn't like to end up in A & E. I hope you recover and feel better soon.

  7. Oh dear, poor you, you have been in the wars. I hope you are feeling better now and the aches and pains have gone. It's a real shock to fall over at our age. Those daffodils are gorgeous and will provide a ray of sunshine. Roll on the better weather. 🙂

  8. Pretty daaffs, but I'm thinking that you must be more careful when out &about in icy conditions. Glad you've had the vaccine & I believe you need a second one too. Take care, stay safe and huggles.

    1. Yes, I must take more care whilst out and about although as yet I haven't been out since last Thursday morning when I fell. I have a second vaccine booked for the end of April - I'm not looking forward to it. Take care and stay safe:)

    1. No hot water bottle but a lavender wheat pad which I warm in the microwave. I've certainly been keeping warm. The daffs were lovely:)

  10. Have seen that before... That having shot reactions, shows your immune system is working. Some how, I have the feeling, this is not really so. And that people says it, to make people feel "better" about the reactions.

Oh no, not a fall, on top of the reactions. -sigh-sigh-sigh-

We avoid ice! It is way too easy to slip. Of course at our age (in our 80's), a slip would be far, far, far from a good thing.

Stay warm and rest. Take care of yourself "like little children." You deserve it!!!!!

Oh and we have allergies, which do not let us have any flowers in the house. -sigh-sigh-sigh- Especially now, when the grocery stores have so many to offer. Enjoy yours!!!!!

    Happy Valentine's Day!

    1. Thank you, yes lots of staying warm indoors over the weekend. Such a shame not to be able to have flowers in the house but I hope you have some lovely ones in your garden through the year. Have a lovely day:)

  11. Ouch, I feel your pain. Never good to slip at our age. We had our vaccination yesterday and my arm is a little sore too. As you say worth it in the end. Glad those daffies are cheering you up. Sending cyber hugs. B x

    1. Thank you Barbara,I hope you were both okay with your vaccinations and no side effects other than a sore arm, my arm is less swollen and red now and itchy rather than sore. Take care:)

  12. Good news about having the vaccination, despite the side effects but poor you having the fall, a long soak in a hot bath might help with any aches and pains from it, I hope you're feeling a lot better now?

  13. Yellow is a very cheerful color! I hope that it has cheered you up and you are well again. I had no symptoms after the first vaccine and was ill for four days after the second. I'm told that it is a good sign - that the vaccine is working.

    1. The daffodils lasted quite a while. Sorry you were ill after the second vaccine. I wonder if I will be or if I'll have no symptons having had them for the first one? We'll see:)
