Five things that have made me smile this week
1. Inside - lovely pinkish mauve tulips on the kitchen table have brought much joy this week whilst we looked after a sick cat - he is thankfully a lot better now although at nearly twenty three quite frail.
2. Inside - Stuffed peppers for supper one evening this week. Just couscous, chopped mushrooms, peas and melted cheese, they were delicious with salad leaves.
3. Outside - two lovely primroses just £1 each from a local supermarket. They have been planted into pots. I love their cheerfulness. Colour much needed this week in all the wind and rain.
4. Outside - at the top of the garden the wild garlic makes its appearance. I was glad to see it as two leylandii trees nearby had been removed last October and the ground had been badly trampled by the tree surgeons. I think I can safely say that at least some of the plants have recovered and will spread again under the remaining trees.
5. Outside - 'two rockys and a woody'. We found an old bag of split peas in the back of the cupboard and decided to try them outside as bird food. The pigeons love them and both rock doves and wood pigeons are prepared to share. The collard doves still prefer the suet sprinkles and like the robins, aren't afraid of coming close to the conservatory window to ask if we are late putting them out in the morning.
I didn't know cats could live that long.We have had two that lived to seventeen and I thought that was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos,yet again.
Thank you Barbara, our first cat got to thirteen, our second and third got to around seventeen (not sure as we took them both in so that is an estimate) but these last two cats have lived longer, Max's sister got to twenty and he will be twenty three in April this year they were born in 1996 and we had them in March 1997 via Cats Protection:)
DeleteFive very cheerful photos. I think pigeons will have a go at eating anything.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, we get lots of wood pigeons in the garden but the peas have brough the others in too:)
DeleteA wonderful five Rosie, I am ever hopeful that Spring is indeed on the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes I hope Spring will be here soon as I'm fed up of the wet and windy weather at the moment:)
DeleteSo sorry to hear your cat has been poorly but pleased to hear he is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteA lovely set of images - love the tulips and red and yellow primroses. So envious (still!) of your wild garlic plants and good to know they have survived the tree surgeon trampling! I've made a note of your pepper idea for tea - sounds very tasty :) Have a good weekend and I hope your cat continues his recovery.
Thank you RR. it has been a difficult week but he's revived and has walked around the garden a couple of times he's still not eating well though. Each time he goes downhill we think 'this is it' be he seems to pull round. I'm so pleased the wild garlic came back as I thoght we'd lost it, it is a very stong spreading plant though. I hope you enjoy the stuffed peppers they are quick and easy to do:)
DeleteBeautiful tulips!

A variety of birds must enjoy the food you put out for them. I'm glad to hear that your kitty, Max, is a lot better. All the best Rosie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, the primroses have been put on the steps in front of the kitchen window and it's lovely to see their brightness. We have lots of little birds visit too plus the gang of starlings that visit daily. Max seems to be picking up again now:)

ReplyDeleteLovely pics. Have seen wild garlic leaves everywhere too. Looking forward to the appearance of more wild flowers. X
Thank you shazza, Max likes his Iams biscuits and his whiskers milk which is a treat after his medication. We don't eat meat ourselves but buy him a chicken, cook it, chop it into small bitesize pieces (he only has three teeth) and bag it for the freezer giving him a little at a time. I love wild garlic also wood anemones both will be our soon I hope:)
DeleteI love all five, Rosie, but the stuffed peppers really spoke to me :-)

DeleteYour cat is doing really well, ours lives to be 21 and I thought that was old.
ReplyDeleteGreat use for the old split peas
Pretty tulips, mine are not quite such a dark pink, but giving just as much pleasure to the dull dark days that we've recently been having.
The stuffed peppers look really tasty
Thank you Julie. We never imagined tht Max would still be with us. The pigeons loved the spit peas and a least they weren't wasted as they should have been used in 2015:)
DeleteYou're so good at bringing colour in. I found an old bag of split peas in the cupboard last week and used them in soup because I had run out of red lentils. I shan't be doing that again, they really were too old, so I shall put the rest out for the birds, thanks for the tip. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Mrs T. Our packet of split peas had a use by date in 2015! I hope your garden visitors appreciated them, it seemed to be pigeons that liked ours:)
DeleteSo many things to love in your post, plus now i'm feeling hungry too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam, hope you aren't too hungry and have something nice for tea:)
