Recently

Recently I've been walking.........

by the River Derwent at Cromford between Masson Mill and Arkwright's Mill.....

and along the Cromford Canal as far as the Leawood Pumping Station.

Enjoying.....

The last of the Dahlias in the garden.

Reading........

about Rain whilst it has been raining non stop for the last couple of days.  It's a lovely read, not one hundred pages long but full of wonderful prose and information.

Four walks across four seasons, three in places I know or have visited. All in the rain.

Spotting signs of Autumn.........

In the trees

Loads of Sweet Chestnuts on the trees
but most small and unformed
and falling to the ground

leaves on the path, blowing in the breeze.

Lords and Ladies plus lots of different fungi.

We had a quick walk around the lake this morning starting out in sunshine and blue skies. We watched the Martins swooping over the lake catching the last of the flying insects.  Halfway round it started to rain, heavy infrequent drops which soon turned to a short, sharp shower as we left the gardens.  As we drove home we spotted a rainbow so delicate it disappeared no more than five seconds after we had spotted it.

Thank you for taking me, on your delightful walks...

Now that the weather has ceased to be hot/humid, I want to get walking again.

    1. The boat is wonderful and takes people up and down the canal, I'm hoping this wet weather goes away soon so we can get in the garden and out for walks too:)

  3. I know that stretch of canal, it makes a lovely walk. Interesting to read a book about rain on a rainy day. During the recent very hot weather I read Barry Lopez's "Arctic Dreams" - nah, it didn't really make it feel any cooler, but it was worth a try!

    1. I think I read a book set in winter snow during the summer, didn't work for me either. It is a lovely stretch of waterway to wander along and with the chance of seeing water voles too:)

  4. Lovely to see all the signs of autumn appearing in your super photos. I love the canal boat - there is always something to see when you walk along a canal or river. I have a different Melissa Harrison book on my Kindle - I bought it ages ago and really must get round to reading it! Have a lovely weekend - hopefully drier than the last few days although sadly the forecast doesn't look very promising!

Some of the trees here are turning, but most of them will be doing so in the first half of October.

  10. Thank you for sharing those wonderful photos from your walks. I love the fall, and the trees in their full autumnal glory. The photo of the river and the fly fisherman, made me think of my late husband who was always out, fair weather or foul in waders in a river, pond or the ocean. The recollection made me smile.

    1. I'm so glad that the photo made you smile and brought back some fond memories for you. When we passed the first time the fisherman was sitting on the bank when we returned he was in the middle of the river. I've looked to see if you have a blog but I can't find a link to follow. Thank you for visiting:)

  11. A lovely autumnal post. I managed to take a walk in a couple of local parks this week before the storms arrived. Then there were indoor activities when the rain came down and the wind got up to speed outside. I'm hoping that the weather improves so that we can get out again this weekend. Wishing you a good one.

    1. Thank you Linda, I hope you were able to get out and about this weekend. It was lovely to see a bit of sunshine again today. I haven't walked nearly as much as usual because it was too hot and now too wet. Next week looks a little drier:)

  12. You took us on a beautiful walk with you. The long boat was a feast for the eyes, so colourful. I heard on the news here that there was a lot of damage to long boats due to falling trees from the latest storm.

  14. What a lovely post & whenever I see canal photos and mills, I just want to be back over there. Glad you are getting some rain now after your dry summer, which is probably why the sweet chestnuts are dropping before fully formed. Thanks for taking us along & take care.

  15. You have some lovely places to walk to Rosie. Soon as it stops raining I will go out for daily long walks again. Walking in the autumn is one of my favourite things to do and then come home for a hot drink and something nice to eat! Lovely photos and beautifully coloured autumn leaves. x

    1. I hope you get out on your walks soon, the weather has either been too hot or too wet over the last few months for walks to be enjoyable. I love a cool crisp day in Autumn for walking:)

  16. I've never seen mushrooms like these before. I suppose you need rain to get any mushrooms and we haven't had any so far. At least I got to enjoy yours with these wonderful photos of the green and the water and the lovely autumn leaves.
