The Appealing Whiteness of Spring

I always think of the bright yellow of daffodils as the essential colour of Spring but over the last few days I've noticed a lot of white flowers around........

Trees blossoming outside the local library

Blackthorn (and geese - just because I like geese!) on the Shropshire Union Canal

and in the garden at home, blossom on the plum tree, flowers on the bridal wreath (spirea arguta) and on the snowy mespilus (Amelanchier lamarckii).

Hope you all have a great weekend.

  1. I love white flowers. They show up especially well in the moonlight. My white plum blossom has finished now and I have hundreds of tiny plums (though unfortunately the tree has scale) the white pear blossom has finished too and I am now left with the pink blossom of the Braeburn apple. The bridal wreath in your photo has such a fitting name. x

    1. We can see the top branches of the Amelanchier from our bedroom and it looks lovely in the late evening light as I go to draw the curtains:)

  4. It's strange that certain colours seem to dominate the scene at different times of the year. May bushes are also coming into flower around here, overlapping with the Blackthorn for once.

    1. I always confuse the two so would be even more confused if they came out together - there are some strange pairing of plants this year:)

  6. I love the geese!
The blossom is beautiful, and some of it (like the crab apple blossom, here) is just buzzing with bees.

    1. Have you got any photos of the trees from last year so you can check? The sloe bushes were all over the hedgerows as we drove back from the canal side walk and it did look as if they had a light dusting of snow:)xxxx

  9. There really is an abundance of white blossom this year which at times you could be fooled into thinking it was snow when the wind blows it from the trees!
