Yesterday morning in the stumpery on the lakeside walk at the Trentham Estate
Foxgloves
As far as the eye could see
My camera couldn't do justice to how beautiful they were
I stood taking in their beauty but quite a few people just passed by, jogging, walking, talking, heads down gazing at their phones. They were missing such a treat.
Lovely photographs :) My 30 Days Wild activity today was watching bees visiting foxgloves.
ReplyDeleteI must visit and have a look what you have been up to for 30 days wild:)
DeleteGlorious! 😊
ReplyDeleteThey are:)
DeleteI do enjoy seeing woodland plants and those foxgloves in the stumpery on the lakeland walk look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThey just looked so wonderful in the sunshine:)
DeleteLovely to see your foxgloves. All ours are finished in the garden now thanks to last weeks gale. B x
ReplyDeleteOur garden ones haven't opened out yet, they seem stunted as they had an attack of greenfly earlier this month:)
DeleteWhat a stunning sight and beautiful photos. It never ceases to amaze me how many people miss the beauties of the natural world around them - wherever you go people are just glued to their phones :(
ReplyDeleteI know, we pass so many people just not looking at what is around them, I guess they are intent on getting their exercise for the day but it does seem such a shame. People texting whilst crossing the road frighten me:)
DeleteStunning, such a shame so many people were so engrossed they missed such a treat.
ReplyDeleteThey did miss it, I can only hope, if they walk there regularly they spot them on another visit:)
DeleteGorgeous, and the bees love them too. So many people are sniffy about foxgloves, regarding them as weeds, but I love them. Thank you for sharing. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mrs T, I see them as wild flowers rather than weeds although I do have some white ones in the garden they haven't been successful this year for some reason. The bees do love them and it's great to see the bees go right up into the flowers to find nectar:)
DeleteJust yesterday I noted that our Foxgloves around the front pond are in bloom. I think they are so pretty, and was amazed that our county environmental folk do not want to encourage their growth here in Boring, Oregon, USA.
ReplyDeleteI notice around here that lots of non native species are beeing got rid of like rhododendrons and invasive plants like Himalayan Balsam and Japanese knotweed are destroyed straight away. Are foxglves native to your area? As Mrs T says above some people see them as weeds rather like buddleia or rosebay willow herb. Thanks for you lovely comments on my last few posts I've replied to each one:)
DeleteI think they are not considered native where as Rhododendron and Azaleas are so they are encouraged because they are native. Finding consensus in life is ever challenging it seems.
DeleteI feel I should confess that I also cultivate/manage buddleis and rosebay willow herb in my garden! The bees and butterflies love them and I have found elephant hawk moth caterpillars on the rosebay willow herb, which is precisely why I keep it! The neighbours think I am bonkers. x
DeleteWe too cultivate a buddleia, it sometimes struggles, it sways in the wind and sometimes the branches break off under stress but we keep it even though it doesn't flower much anymore because the birds love it and perch in it before they make a bee line for the feeders which are just opposite it, I think it gives them a sense of security:)
DeleteBeautiful photos - the foxgloves look so full whereas mine this year are a bit straggly. Last year they were beautiful and I had so many. They are biennials aren't they so perhaps I'll do better next year? It's hard to believe they are so toxic - you have to be careful if you are taking close up shots - especially if there are bees about too! Lovely post :)
ReplyDeleteMine are very straggly this year too and the flowers very small and unformed, we grew small plants from a packet of seeds which were free on a magazine last year so perhaps this will be seen as their first year and they will flower better next year, I hope so:)
