Mad Max
Yesterday Max had to go into the vets to get his teeth sorted out. He ended up having several extractions as well as a scale and polish. We brought him home armed with antibiotics, painkillers and special soft food; the nurse said he would probably sleep a lot and be very drowsy. Not so. He spent the evening racing around the house going round and round in circles until I was dizzy. We had to get up with him two or three times in the night as he just wouldn't settle but by morning he seemed to have calmed down and after he'd had his tablets and soft food we decided to let him out, even though we were supposed to keep him in for 24 hours, as he was desperate to be in the garden. He was fine and calmed down immediately.
In the middle of all this activity, around midnight I think, but at a point where we had just fallen asleep for a while there was a knock at the front door; as it was quite late we were a bit cautious but it was just a pizza delivery man who'd somehow got the wrong house number. I wonder if the people who'd ordered the pizza ever got their delivery?

It Never rains but It Pours
The day after letting Tom take his first venture outside for at least two weeks, we now have a problem with Chloe. Yesterday morning we set out early and had a long walk around Trentham Lake then sat and had a cup of coffee before venturing home. When we got back we let Tom out for his second outing and along with the other two cats we spent an hour or so in the garden tidying up before having lunch. As I was clearing up after lunch I went into the back of the garage to put some things into the recycling bins and looked out of the window to see Chloe sitting on one of the water butts looking very odd and unstable and then she fell backwards off the water butt. I shouted Paul and dashed outside where Max was chasing Chloe who was dragging herself across the garden her back legs dragging behind her and her body twisted to one side. My immediate thought was that she had injured her back or her back legs. Paul managed to catch her and we rang the emergency veterinary service who now use the P.D.S.A. hospital out of hours. We rushed her down there and she had loads of tests and x-rays and the good news is that she hasn't broken anything or damaged any internal organs - it just seems to be muscle and nerve damage. It took her ages to come round last night but this morning she seems brighter and is moving more easily than she was yesterday. So it looks like with a bit of rest she will be okay. She has to stay in today whilst Tom is taking delight in the fact that he is now free to roam again. Poor Max seems bemused by the whole thing.

Quick Update on Tom
For those of you who have left comments or e-mailed me about Tom - thank you, you are all so kind. He has been very, very ill and last night we thought we'd lost him, I mentally said my goodbyes and shed a few tears but this morning things are looking a bit brighter for him - we aren't out of the woods yet, we are still awaiting the results of a couple more blood tests, if those are clear, he may be in with a chance. There is a little window of hope opening at the end of that tunnel.

Poor Tom
Poor tommy the tank is very sick. He's at the vet's surgery, attached to a drip to stop him getting dehydrated, and has been since Friday lunchtime. We may be able to bring him home tomorrow, but the vet still has concerns. They think he has some sort of bacterial enteritis but the worry is that it may be viral and if so this is going to be a problem because of the other two cats. At the moment the other two seem to be ok. He still has some tests to undergo tomorrow and we will know more then.
In the meantime the house just isn't the same without him.
