Last week we travelled over to Leicester to spend the day with my cousin and her husband. We were both born in the city, her family stayed there. We moved away when I was six years old.
After a lovely meal at the Badger's Sett in Cropston we walked at nearby Bradgate Park.
There were so many deer there both Red deer and Fallow deer. I managed a few snaps of them but it began to rain so they are not the best.
The ruins of the former residence of the Grey family and the home of the tragic Lady Jane Grey - queen for just nine days - was surrounded in scaffolding and is being refurbished.
We decided to stay overnight at Ashby de la Zouche where we met this little fellow before we moved on to visit Calke Abbey.
It seemed quite a while since we had visited Calke. I looked back and it was 2016. I wanted to see the Auricula Theatre full of pumpkins and squashes.
There were more deer to see. The stags were bellowing, you could hear them across the park.
I'm not sure what's more exciting. Seeing the deer or Paddington :)

Thank you Jules, although it was wonderful to see the deer I must admit that I was thrilled to see Paddington. The church was so warm and welcoming with all the seasonal displays:)
DeleteIt's nice to stay over and enjoy a delicious breakfast the next day before heading off for more exploring. The deer can be quite ferocious at this time of year but they do look fantastic with their antlers. Wow those pumpkins look amazing especially displayed like that. 😊 🎃
ReplyDeleteThank you CK, we often stay overnight when travelling any distance especially this time of year when travelling home in the dark is no fun. I always enjoy a hotel breakfast although I only ever have the continental option or scrambled eggs on toast:)
DeleteHow stunning with all the autumn colour. I remember seeing the auricula theatre a few years ago. I bought some seeds recently and hope to grow my own. B x

I haven't been to Calke for quite a few years but I do remember the auricula theatre there - it looks wonderful with the pumpkins and squashes. Lovely decorations in the church. ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. The deer at Bradgate Park were wonderful, so many of them. We left quite late and they were all coming out and across the paths as the park was emptying of people. I was so pleased to see Paddington, he was an added bonus to a lovely couple of days:)
