A few more and a Lazy Fox

Mr Fox has been visiting the garden in the early mornings and evenings.  A few days ago I spotted him relaxing on the top lawn.  I'm glad he feels safe here.

In my last post I promised a few more photos of The Ragged Victorians at the Gladstone Pottery Museum.

I can't remember what character the man above was meant to be.  I love his hat.

The Rat Catcher.  I expect that today he would be called a Rodent Control Operative.

Fallen on hard times

The two girls were really involved in their conversation.

Below the Shepherd in sepia tone

and the girls in black and white

All for now.

  1. These are fascinating. I wonder what the young girls think about their roles? Do they understand the concept, or do they just enjoy dressing up? I would have loved it as a child.

    1. Thank you Granny Sue. I think they did enter into the Victorian world and understood what they were doing and also enjoying it. I dressed up once or twice for events at Museums I worked at and it is fun, hard to remember sometimes the era you are supposed to be in and not react in a 'modern' way to people's questions:)

  2. Wonderful to see the fox looking so relaxed.
Thanks so much for the extra photos from The Ragged Victorians event at Gladstone Pottery museum and I love the sepia and black and white effect. I used to edit mine sometimes to be in those tones - it is very effective. Take care in the heat Rosie - it seems unbearable already!

    1. Thank you Caroline, yes, foxy seems to like our garden even though there are dogs either side of us, he often just creeps in as if he wants to keep it to himself. You too take care in the heat - it's 30 here in the conservatory, 24 in the living room but the sun hasn't got round to that side of the house yet:)

  3. What amazing costumes, they have done a really good job creating them. I love the straw hat. All that fur on the fox, a bit hot today for him. 😊

    1. Thank you CK. The costumes must be permanently aged and dyed to look dirty, plus the face make up on some of them. I feel sorry for the wildlife in this heat. Take care:)

  4. I just looked back at your earlier post. What wonderful costumes. It's often the wealthy and influential people who are immortalized, and it's good to remember that most people did not have lavish lives.

Your lazy fox looks very comfortable!

    1. Thank you Lorrie, yes the costumes were wonderful and it is so interesting to see how most people lived day to day in those times without the support we have now:)

  6. Lovely that you have a resident fox. He does look very relaxed in your garden. I was very excited the other day when I spotted a red squirrel running across the garden. Sadly he hasn’t returned but I’m keeping my fingers crossed he might. B x

  7. Love the fox and what an amazing day out at Gladstone Pottery. Just what I thought all that would like when I was a little girl, learning about Victorian England in school out here in Oz. Thanks, take care & hugs.

    2. Thank you Susan, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos, yes I always enjoyed social history and learning about how ordinary people lived and worked. Although I also remember monarchs and battles quite well too, luckily we had a teacher who taught both. Take care:)

    1. Thank you Beverley, the sepia tone makes the photos look 'older' than the black and white, I think. I hope Mr Fox is keeping cool in his den, haven't seen him for a couple of days:)
