Waterbirds and Daffodils

A jug full of bright yellow daffodils are just the thing for cheering up a cold, grey and dreary day.

We saw quite a few interesting water birds on yesterday's walk around the lake at Rocester.  It was a cold morning and for some reason I just couldn't seem to keep warm so we didn't linger for too long. Fortunately most of the birds were gathered near the small car park where people arrive with food, for themselves and the birds.

I had to get the bird book out to identify a few of them.

Above and below Ruddy Shellduck.  There were three of them.

We saw two of the same ducks on Trentham lake at the beginning of the week.  They were an unusual enough visitor for Trentham to write a post about them on their facebook page.

Snow Goose

Runner Duck

Hooded Merganser

Shoveler Duck

Red Crested Pochard

Bufflehead? Not a native species if so.

    1. Thank you B I like this time of year when the daffodils are for sale in the supermarket, it's so easy to bring home a little bit of colour and cheer:)

  2. Super spotting, some unusual birds there which must have been exciting. We have some daffodils out already by the bus stop but really need the weather to warm up a bit. 😊

    1. Thank you CK, lots of unusual birds to see, some live there others visit. There are signs of Spring flowers in the garden, litle green shoots amongst the tangle of brown:)

  4. Thank you for the cheery yellow daffodils - just what I needed this morning. You saw quite a variety of birds on your walk even if the weather was very cold. Hope you managed to warm up when you got home. Have a good week.

  5. Cheery daffodils. Buffleheads are native around here on the west coast of Canada. I wonder if they got lost somehow.

    1. Thank you Lorrie. Daffodils are very cheerul. I wonder if the Bufflehead came from some sort of bird reserve/ zoo or private collection and ended up at the lake. It looked happy enough on its own:)
