The garden is bit of a mess, mainly because it has been too hot to work out there but also due to lack of rain. The grass yellow and dry, shrubs with crisp brown leaves, flowers and most produce stunted. Such a shame.
The three water butts are empty, we try to save tap water into jugs, mostly from water run whilst waiting for it to turn warm enough for washing up also any water used for washing and rinsing fruit and vegetables.
The 'no mow' area at the top of the garden has now been cut down, you can see where it was from the very faded area around the seat.
Hardly any sweet peas, strawberries or gooseberries this summer. The tomatoes in the greenhouse have taken ages to ripen but at last one of the varieties has started to reach the expected size and colour.
Garden visitors still arrive for food and water.
So sorry for the late comment Rosie somehow I have missed the post but blogger doesn't always seem to update at the moment when people publish new blog posts. Gardens seem to be struggling so much from lack of rain. My son grows vegetables and they seem to be really behind this year. It must be lovely to have badgers in the garden but as you say they (and hedgehogs) must be struggling so much to find food with the earth so dry. The linnets visiting your bird feeders are great news :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. Don't worry about the late comment, blogger does seem to be doing odd things again. I've noticed once or twice recently that blogs I follow seem not to have updated for a while but when I visit I find I've missed posts. We had three badgers last nights having a bit of a tussle on the top lawn, they are funny to watch, they look healthy enough so I guess people other than us are feeding both badgers and foxes. We had the linnets visit today although very few other birds at the moment, things have quietened down now:)
DeleteOooh I missed this post! All our gardens are looking a bit worse for wear but yours is holding up well and at least all the grass mowing has stopped! Your tomatoes look really cheery and it's great to see the animals managing to keep going in the heat. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you CK, I think the post for some reason didn't show up anywhere for ages, I've noticed that happening with other blogs too. We have so many of those tomatoes now, we've just watched some butterflies coming down to the plant pots looking for water:)
