It's been much warmer and brighter over the last few days. I was concerned that I hadn't seen any Wood Anemones growing yet in the garden but all of a sudden two or three flowers have appeared hidden under a Hebe bush.
We've had some unusual visitors to the bird feeders. The Great Spotted Woodpecker is back. I was able to catch him for a photo last week. It is a male as he has a red spot on back of his head.
We've had three other different birds visit recently. Paul managed to take photos of them.
Linnet
We enjoyed the first few sticks gently stewed and served with some Greek yoghurt.
I think the Comma butterfly was enjoying the Rhubarb too. This is the first we've seen this year.
Not long after a couple of Peacock butterflies were spotted flying over the garden, they landed on a raised bed. A Brimstone was also seen flittering about over the garden. It was too quick for the camera though and didn't settle at all.
It's good to see so much wildlife back in the garden.
Good news about the Wood Anemones. You have had some super visitors to your bird feeders :) I must check our pond for newts - we have dozens! No frogs anymore though and I often wonder if the newts ate all the tadpoles! It is great to start seeing butterflies again. We saw a lot of Brimstones when we were out yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. I was so pleased to see the Wood Anemones, there are more to flower under the Hebe and another patch further along. We too used to have loads of frogs but haven't seen any for a few years now. I too wonder if the Newts ate all the tadpoles or if neighbouring cats and foxes were responsible. They may, of course have found better accommodation nearby. It was lovely to see the butterflies and a few bumble bees over the last few days:)
DeleteWonderful, so good to see everything coming back to life. I've only seen one Brimstone butterfly so far. Bluebells are flowering already and tulips are starting to colour. So good to see the blue skies and to leave all the coats at home. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you CK. Bluebells already? They are early in your corner. It is good to have Spring flowers and blue skies to cheer us. Although I'm not brave enough to leave my coat at home yet I have put away the very warm wintery one and brought out a lighter weight one:)
DeleteIt’s amazing what a little sunshine can do. Some lovely visitors to your garden. Lovely to see so many early butterflies. B x
