Before the New Year

How strange the weather has been for the last few days, neither one thing or the other.  Calm, dry and dull.  No wind, no rain and no sun either.  It feels 'pending'.  I'm hoping proper winter weather stays away for a few more days as we have to travel and stay over for a family funeral next week.  We started this year with a funeral and it seems like next year is starting out the same.

Below are a few photos from yesterday's morning walk around the lake.

How quiet it seemed, not many people along the paths.  Just a few other walkers or photographers passing by.

Even the water birds seemed quiet with the occasional call from a coot or gull or the flap of wings from a landing swan.

Time for a snooze for Mr and Mrs Mallard.

Right, time to get ready for my appointment at the opticians to see what the problem with my right eye is.  It's always the right eye, I've had laser treatment on it before I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't have to have that again or that the cataracts haven't worsened.  I'm a bit of a scaredy cat where my eyes are concerned and can't bear anyone messing with them.

I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas.  All my best wishes for the New Year.

Take care.

  1. Looks cold. We've had no sun for over a week, lots of gray ugly days. We've had lots of wind, and yesterday snow flurries and again this morning. I'm counting down the days until spring. Not a fan of winter. Sorry to hear you have another funeral to attend. ((HUGS)) and best of luck that the weather holds for your travels.

  3. Looks chilly there but not raining. Ooh, hope the eyes are fine, but know what you mean with our vision.
I have cataracts forming on both eyes and glaucoma in the right and wondering how that pans out as I get older. Sorry to hear about another funeral to start 2026 and hope the rest is OK. Take care & hugs.

    1. Thank you Susan, have really bad floaters and cobweb like film in my eye, had a scan and photos taken of my eye, nothing horrible but they are concerned about tears or retinal detachment. Like you I also have the starts of cataracts. Eyes and sight are so precious, I hope yours will be okay and those cataracts don't get worse. Hope you have a wonderful New Year, take care:)

  4. Wishing you the best with the eye appointment. I hope it is something easily fixed.
Our weather has been crazy. It was about 70 the day after Chrsitmas, then dropped down to the teens and 20s, bit of snow, bit of rain, very high winds ..and now snow on the way again.

    1. Thank you Granny Sue, eyes checked and nothing horrible found, it's just something I have to live with, may be my age, I also have double vision also the meds I am taking have shadows and floaters listed as a side effect. Hey ho. Your weather sounds as if it is all over the place. Take care and Happy New Year:)

  5. It's not a good time of year for older folks, they seem to go down hill, I hope the funeral goes well. It looks really murky in your photos, it's not been too bad here although today I've woken to freezing fog and frost. Hopefully they will get your eye back on track again ready for all the books you no doubt have piled up ready to go. Happy New Year!🎉

    1. Thank you CK. My cousin whose funeral it is was 94, she had a bad fall. Although grey in the photos it wasn't cold, just very still and quiet. I don't like the sound of freezing fog, not nice to travel in, hope you are safe at home, have a wonderful New Year:)

    1. Thank you Caroline, the lakeside wasn't too cold. The funeral is for one of my cousins, age 94, she had a bad fall. Hope snow and ice stay away a little longer to let us get there and back safely. Opticians did a scan and photo of my eye and a good check, worries about tears (I've had one before) and detached retina but nothing untoward at the moment. We had a quiet Christmas as we both had colds me before and P just after. Best wishes to you and yours for 2026:)

    1. Thank you Lyn, Happy New Year to you. Glad it's not just me who feels that way, I can't even watch close ups of eye treatments on television, I have to put a hand over my own until the camera has moved on:)
