Spotted Recently
Early Snowdrops at Trentham Gardens.
A Hedgehog in the garden on one of the warmer days a couple of weeks ago. It looked healthy. After a good rummage around in the grass and along the side of the greenhouse it wandered away into the hedges between us and next door. I hope it has a warm home somewhere now the first frosts have appeared.
Again at Trentham Gardens beside the lake a strange fungi that looks like a cross between a cone flower and a fried egg.
At a local garden centre a Robin on the roof of one of the little 'gingerbread' cottages. It flew in from the more open houseplant area into the decorated tree and then onto the little house.
Heron lurking in the branches of a tree overhanging the lake at Westport Lake, when it finally flew away another one flew out from the base of the tree and followed it.
A Kingfisher on the Trent and Mersey Canal between Westport Lake and Middleport Pottery. Paul managed to take a quick photo but the bird darted hither and thither. It was so nice to see its wonderful turquoise blue feathers as it sped down the canal.
All for now.
So many interesting things, including that strange looking fungus. No snowdrops here yet, but one hellebore is budding. It's so early. And everything is likely to get a cold shock before long.
ReplyDeleteTaking a photo of a kingfisher is difficult. They move so fast and rarely stay in one spot for long. Well done!
Thank you Lorrie, I didn't stand a chance of a photo of the Kingfisher with my little camera, they move so quickly but so elegantly as they fly over the water:)
DeleteYou have spotted some super things recently Rosie. It is SO early to be seeing Snowdrops. How wonderful to see a Kingfisher - I haven't seen one this year not even in the usual places where we have seen them in the past. That is an unusual looking fungus.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, we noticed two or three clumps of snowdrops and they looked so fragile surrounded by all the Christmas decorations there at the moment. As we walked around the lake at Westport, Paul said it would be nice to see a Kingfisher and I jokingly said it'll be down on the canal and it was! I'd never seen a fungus like that before:)
DeleteWhat a great picture of the Hedgehog! All those Gingerbread houses...so cute. The fungus was interesting. There are so many different kinds, I find them interesting. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

DeleteYou've managed some excellent, unusual spots this week - snowdrops, fried eggs, hedgehogs, kingfishers, what a treat! I wonder if the robin thought he'd get a tasty snack. Hope you enjoyed your scone, how could you not! 😊

DeleteA very apt description of the fungi. The last bird is so colorful, much different from our kingfishers.
