Wild and Windy

Gosh isn't it windy today?  Yesterday whilst we were out and about the car started to flash warnings so we had to abandon picking up cat food and drive straight to the garage and book it in.  It was due for a service and MOT at the end of the month anyway.

This morning, not being able to use the car, we walked to the nearest supermarket for the cat food, well chicken thighs and prawns, which our elderly cat (twenty one in April) seems to prefer now.  We don't eat meat ourselves and haven't done for about thirty years so it seems strange to have chicken in the fridge but we'll try anything to tempt his appetite.

Max

As we walked the wind was humming though the wires and blowing straight into our faces, trees branches were down and wheelie bins tipped over.  On our way back the wind was pushing us from behind, it did feel invigorating, but it was good to get home again.

The weather on Sunday was completely different when we ventured out and about. It was foggy in patches and very wet too, below are a few photos from our walk.

We called at Brierlow Bar Bookshop first and then drove round to the Buxton Country Park which is near Poole's Cavern.

It was quite cold and damp in the air.

At one point it rained quite heavily.

It was drier under the shelter of the trees

Below us the lovely town of Buxton in the mist

There was lots of fungi - this one was filling up with rain water like a little cup.

Out of the woods and through the gate

Solomon's Temple in the distance, we didn't venture up to it on this walk but have been to the top of it on several of our walks here.

The seat was very wet, no chance of sitting down!

Back over the stile and into the woods again.

Passing this lovely wood sculpture on the way back to the car park.

    1. Thanks, Deb we didn't think he'd get this far with all his ailments and medication. We lost his sister in August last year age 20:)

    1. Yes, they are, all our cats have always had packs of cat meat and biscuits but he seems now to prefer the chicken and his treat of prawns every day:)

  3. The things we do for our pets - he is a wonderful age Rosie and I hope he has many more birthdays.

The walk looks great and I love the wood sculpture. Just got back from a brief walk round a reservoir and the wind was bitingly cold and it was freezing! Looks as though it is going to get colder and possibly snow too!

    1. We never thought he would get beyond Christmas but he has. His sister who always seemed well died August last year age 20. They must come from a family of long lived cats. It is a super walk and you can get up to Grin Low from the country park too:)

  4. You took us on a wonderful stroll a joy to go along with you. It is blowing a gale here at the moment and the temperatures are starting to drop. You are doing a great job for your beautiful cat, may he have many more Birthdays.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the walk. I'm not a lover of wind because of the destruction it causes but also it just makes me irritated when I'm out in it and gives me a headache. Max is a handsome chap still isn't he?:)

  5. The walk in the Buxton area looks interesting. I hope you get the car sorted out. We couldn't do without ours. Even though I try and use public transport locally it's good to have a car for longer journeys. I managed to get out today, but the wind was strong and bitterly cold. Many trees came down during the night, falling across roads and causing disruption for travellers this morning. I can understand why you try and tempt your lovely cat to eat by giving him tasty morsels of chicken and prawns.

    1. I hope the car gets sorted soon too, we do rely on it so much. The wind was very strong wasn't it? Although it didn't feel cold. I've been around the garden this morning picking up bits of littler and polystyrene blocks that had blown there from elsewhere, as we are at the top of the street everything ends up in our garden. Now we have to face the snow! Winter is finally here:)

  6. It's good to just get out at the moment whatever the weather. The things we do for our cats. I'll be just the same no doubt. At the moment mine eat anything and everything but no doubt I'll be buying prawns one of these days. Keep cosy in that snow :) B x

    1. Yes, snow is forecast for later this evening so I hope we get the car back from the garage before then. I think Max and his sister, who we lost in August age 20, come from a sturdy, long lived family of cats. Max does find it easier to eat the chicken and he loves prawns. He has also been known to eat carrot cake and melon too, in his youth of course:)

  7. Well done for braving the wind, it's not so bad down here. Isn't Buxton a smashing place, love it. 🙂

    1. Buxton is wonderful. I love visiting as there is so much to do and its great just to wander around. The wind seems to have dropped today perhaps making way for the snow that is predicted for later:)

  10. I do love winter walks because they can be so invigorating, even if the day is grey and cold. There's still lots to see in the countryside. The wood sculpture looks great. I hope Max is tempted to eat his special food.

  11. Aah. Lovely photo of your old companion Max. Tabby cats have always held a special place in my heart as my first two cats were tabbies. I hope Max was tempted by the chicken and prawns. The wood sculpture is a lovely intricate piece of art. x

  12. I have prawns in the freezer for Thomas, my elderly cat... No-one else likes them. Does Max have a huge vocab of almost human conversation? I'm never bored when Thomas is up for playing. Jx

    1. Oh, yes he does! In fact he is 'chuntering' as we call it as I type. His senior yowling reaches heights sometimes (it did at 3a.m. this morning) as he is deaf and gets confused too. We have quite an array of 'words' through 'Hiya, Miya,Liar,Brian' to 'Mow and Mowa'. Our other tom cat,who we took on as a stray a few years ago, used to come out with 'Ooo err' and 'oh,no' - especially in the car on the way to the vets:)

  13. Wonderful age for a cat. Enjoyed your walk Rosie, very wintry and reminded me of scenes (in my head) of Wuthering Heights, which I'm reading at the moment.

  14. This looks like a lovely walk. I like walking at this time of year, birds are more active once more and still visible easily because there are no leaves on the trees. Max is doing well, he deserves to be spoiled at his age.

    1. Yes you can spot birds more easily at this time of year as they also move in for food in the cold weather. Somehow Max keeps tottering on, he does love prawns:)
