Flower Wednesday

Honeysuckle

Some flowers a delicate yellow in colour

and some more pink in colour

The scent from both was wonderful,  drifting in the warm air

of a hazy, summer afternoon.

Photos taken on Monday at Biddulph Grange Gardens, Staffordshire our nearest National Trust Property.

    1. They are almost sculptural aren't they?:)

  3. That is quite a distance for the B.G. honeysuckle to have to waft all the way to your place - not that I don't think it can, judging by the strength of ours. Great plant to have give of such a delicious scent for so many months.
Don't mind me - midsummer madness I suppose.

    1. HaHa see what you mean, its the way I've used the words perhaps? No the fragrance was definitely in Biddulph not in our garden - it would be a long way to drift from north of the city to south of the city:)

  4. I can smell it from here! Biddulph Grange is a nice garden with all those rooms. I thought of you as we shot past Trentham Gardens on the motorway! :-)

    1. The M6 does pass a litle way behind the gardens, you can walk through the woods behind the estate to the bridge which goes over the motorway:)

  6. Flowers only on Wednesday - how sad!
My father planted some honeysuckle by the back door many years ago and it's still going strong, only needing an occasional trim so that we can get in and out.

    1. I know! Perhaps we should have a flower a day? Honeysuckle does tend to take over, ours was manic but we had to chop it and move it to fit in the new fence so it is a shadow of it's former self at the moment:)

  9. The pinky ones don't seem to be as fragrant as the yellow for me, but they're prettier!

    1. The pink are more striking but I did notice some wild yellow honeysuckle on our walk on Sunday and the smell was much stronger than the larger pink flowers:)

    1. The honeysuckle in our garden had to be pruned and moved when we installed a new fence so it needs to grow on again. I missed the flowers so it was lovely to see the ones at Biddulph Gardens:)

  11. That looks very much like one of the honeysuckles I have in my garden. (I have two.) It does smell marvellous, if it is the same one.

    1. If we drive up through the city the gardens are about half an hour away and lovely to visit in all seasons, same time in the opposite direction are the Dorothy Clive Gardens which are also wonderful especially in May and June, though closed in Winter except for special events. We are lucky to be close to so many lovely gardens:)
