Five on Friday

It's Friday so I'm joining in with  Amy at Love Made my Home for this week's Five on Friday.  Click on the link at the bottom of this post to find others who are joining in too.

My five are a quick selection of random things that have been happening around the house and quite locally this week as we haven't been very far because of the weather, some decorating and the car going in for its annual service and MOT.  Just little snapshots of the week really.

1.  The Hyacinths I showed you a couple of weeks ago have grown and they are going to be blue,  I was hoping that they would be in flower for this Friday but they aren't quite there yet.  It won't be long now.

2Big Garden Birdwatch - I usually take part in this every year at the end of January and this year will be no exception.  I have registered with the RSPB who organise this event and as we feed the birds all year we haven't had to make any special provision for them, we just give them extra in very cold weather but it has been quite mild over the last few days so they will just get the usual, buggy sprinkles, sunflower hearts and niger seed, plus the fat balls.  I wonder what we will see in our chosen hour this year?

3.  New Wallpaper - the small bedroom which we use as a dressing room needed a bit of sprucing up so we spotted some pretty wallpaper in the sale at BandQ - it is now on the walls and looks very fresh and clean.  It has been a project to do indoors whilst the weather has been so wet.  It is ages since we did any wallpapering as we usually just paint the walls a fairly neutral colour and put the colour and patterns into the soft furnishings and ornaments.

4. A Ramshorn Snail - there were loads of them in the pools at Consall Nature Park when we walked there on Sunday.  I commented that it looked like an ammonite because of its flat spiral shell.

5.  Chloe - just because she is so photogenic and is nearly twenty years old and still trots across the grass like a little pony.  Her brother, is struggling with arthritis in his back legs, high blood pressure and a liver problem, we must cherish him whilst he is still with us.  He eats well, sleeps well and ventures out around his ever decreasing territory occasionally and the cats that visit our garden still respect him as the elder statesman of the cat corner we have here.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

  1. I love your wallpaper! it's ages since I did any too but am toying with the idea of papering my sons room while he's away at Uni the walls are too uneven to be just painted. I love feeding the birds too but the neighbours cat Felix does a pretty good job of chasing them away so I don't see many at all now. Have a great weekend. :)

  2. I enjoyed your Five on Friday selection. Your hyacinths don't look as if they will be long before you get the full benefit of their lovely blue colour. I love the Ramshorn snail, nature is so wonderful isn't it. xx

  3. I always look forward to your Friday Fives. The wallpaper is very brave! I'm a monochrome paint person myself and I'm terrified of patterns. (I usually let the curtains handle that.) So well done. It is very pretty.

    1. We usually do the same - keep everything neutral - but we wanted a change and I think I like it:)

  7. Your hyacinths have really grown since you showed them on a recent post and will soon be in full flower. Pretty wallpaper. These decorating projects are good to do on the days when the weather makes it difficult to get out and about.

  12. A lovely five, especially Chloe. We had a very old cat, about 25, who was so spritely until her last week when she seemed to tell us that she was a bit tired now :) Cherish those 'elderly' times. xx

    1. We somehow manage to keep Max ticking over. Our first two cats didn't last as long as these two so I never expected them to be still with us but it is a bonus and a blessing as I love them dearly:)

  13. Good luck with the birdwatch counting, I usually find they all hide for the hour and come out when I've finished! That snail is so sparkly! I like your butterfly wallpaper, very nice indeed. :-)

    1. It has been the worst possible weather for the bird watch this weekend, in this area anyway. Too much wind yesterday and too wet today, but I've just done an hour's count and although not as many birds as we can sometimes see it wasn't too bad:)

  14. Great photos, enjoy the bird watch. I'm heading off to do mine soon.

    1. It isn't the greatest weather for the count but we have managed to chose an hour with a few other visitors than the ubiquitous sparrows:)

  15. How lucky to have a 20 year old cat that is still lively. Our two at nearly 13 have become very sedate and sleepy particularly at this time of year. I love your wallpaper...very pretty. Have a good weekend. Barbara x

    1. I never imagined that these two cats would get as far as 20, as our first two didn't. My neighbour's cat got to 23 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Chloe at least:)

  19. I'm completely jealous of your hyacinths! Mine are only about 1 inch tall and seem to have stopped growing. What am I doing wrong? I'll give them another week and then I'm dumping them and will enjoying viewing other people's blog photo flowers instead! :) XOXO Bronwyn
