Five on Friday

Joining in this week with  Amy at Love Made my Home and Five on Friday.  Click on the link at the bottom of this post to find others who are joining in too.

Five things that have made me smile this week

1.  An unusual visitor to the garden - it isn't often you see a Jay in a city garden but this one spent a morning here picking up bits of some home made, wholemeal bread that had been put on the lawn for the sparrows - they do get other food as well of course, sunflower hearts, fat balls, buggy nibbles and nyger seed.  The Jay would fly off with the crumbs and then return for more so we think he or she may have been feeding young not too far away.

2.  I love Wisteria and this was a particularly lovely one in the pleasure gardens at Keddleston Hall in Derbyshire.  We visited on Saturday to do the long walk which I always enjoy but had a picnic first in the gardens.

 3.  Yesterday it was warm enough to sit in our garden for morning coffee.  A break from cutting the grass with sheets blowing gently in the breeze. It really does feel as if summer is here.  Perfect!  Of course our favourite hare mugs added to the pleasure of the coffee.

 4.  I saw these pan holders in Ikea and couldn't resits them.  I love the little birds and they make me smile quite a bit too.

5.  I always enjoy going to see live theatre performances and we always enjoy going to see Northern Broadsides when they visit locally.  King Lear is quite a dour play but it came alive in the hands of this wonderful company of players.

I'm off to Nottingham today so I'll catch up with all your Five on Friday posts over the weekend.

    1. Hare mugs (plus other animals and birds too) quite cheap at the Churchill Factory shop near Tunstall just off the D road. Jays are normally quite shy birds so it was a surprise to see this one stay around we did wonder if it was feeding young or just itself:)

  16. Your jays are so different to ours. Our daughter just went to see Hamlet a week or so ago. I remember studying the plays in high school. I'm visiting from Five on Friday/

  17. It's been a good year for wisteria I think. The jay here seems to be attacking other nests unfortunately.

    1. Yes, we did wonder about it attacking other nests but it didn't seem to this visit, the magpie however did try to attack a nest at the top of the garden and got bombarded by starlings:)

  18. Great photos - I love your hare mugs . We get jays occasionally in our garden but we're close to lots of woodland areas. They are really handsome birds.

    1. They are handsome birds aren't they? Quite shy too so it was great to have it stay long enough to take a photo. I love the hare mugs and enjoy drinking out of them:)

  20. What a great week you had! I love your blue jays. Ours here in New England are all blue and tend to be pretty aggressive toward the other birds but they are nonetheless beautiful. I love attending the theater as well but since we moved to our current rural home theater is not often available. Oh those bunny/hare mugs are so cute. I am having trouble finding really cute mugs lately, well, at least the ones I can afford:D I have found plenty lovely mugs that cost a small fortune. Oh well...need is not a priority in this department but more so "want"! LOL!
    Hugs for now,

    1. Hello Beth - our Jays although a shy bird can be aggressive too and sometimes take eggs from the nests of smaller birds, they are handsome though. We are lucky for cheap, pretty mugs here in what is know as the Potteries as there are many factory shops selling their lovely designs quite cheaply:)

  21. A beautiful photo of the Jay - you don't see them in gardens round here - you are lucky. Love the Ikea pot holders too. .As for Wisteria I can't quite make my mind up about the colour - I just wish it was a brighter blue rather than powder blue - it does look lovely covering that wall though.

    1. Thanks, Elaine perhaps it is my camera as the wisteria was pale in colour but lilac rather than blue, there was a different one with longer flowers on a wall near the church which was even paler:)

  22. I've never seen a jay like this one ... ours are blue & white. Your jay looks similar to our cedar waxwings. Love that wisteria vine, it looks ancient. Glad you can now get out in the garden for your morning coffee, doesn't it make the coffee all that much more enjoyable? Have a great week!
