Four Little Things

I'm missing the incentive of writing posts like the '52 Weeks of Happy' blog challenge  that some of us joined in with last year so I've decided that occasionally I will write a post about four little things that have made me smile over the last week.

This week we have been staying close to home as I'm looking after my neighbour's cat.  She's an elderly cat who has to have medication at 6p.m. every day. My popping next door two or three times a day usually disconcerts our cats who think I should just be caring for them but this week in all the heat non of the cats care very much about anything except keeping cool.  We have also been clearing out the shed of years of collected items that may 'one day be useful' - they are now sitting in a skip on the front drive awaiting collection.  Hurrah!  We can now walk into the shed instead of opening the door and everything falling out.

Anyway, here are four things that have made me smile this week:-

We went for a walk at Froghall Wharf on Monday morning and when we got back to the car we sat at a picnic table and opened our flask of coffee we were joined by two little bunnies - so cute!

We walked into the woods and over the ancient pack horse bridge.

I love the old, moss covered stones of the bridge which if only it could talk would have tales to tell of all those who have walked over it over hundreds of years.  It was cool and dark down under the bridge and very atmospheric.

Meanwhile, back home in the garden we have water lillies on the pond.  There have been lillies in the pond since we first moved here 17 years ago but I can count on one hand the number of times they have actually flowered - this must be a good year for them.

Flitting over the pond and landing on the garden plants we also have dragonflies - this one stayed around for ages letting me take its photo.

  3. Gosh, clearing out your shed in this weather must have been exhausting!!! It is good to get things like that done though isn't it. I look forward to more happy posts from time to time! xx

    1. It does feel good to have decluttered the shed - we can walk in and out of there now instead of struggling to get the mower or recliners out when we need them:)

  4. Hi Rosie, what a lovely post. I really enjoyed reading about the four little things that made you smile and the photos. So often it doesn't take much to make us happy. Love the expression on the dragonfly's face :)

    1. Yes, a lot better now, Simone thank you. I didn't expect the photo of the dragonfly to be very good because I took it with my little camera which was the nearest to had when it landed in the holly:)

  6. Those are lovely - but the dragonfly photo is amazing. I love them. But they are so difficult to photograph.

    1. Thanks, the dragonfly flew around the garden for a while and then landed in the holly bush and just stayed there long enough for us to take photos and it didn't seem to mind us getting quite close to it:)

  7. We had a shed clear out too - the things we save just in case! Nice to see live bunnies for a change - the only ones I have seen have been squashed on the road! We have one water lily bud so far - ours are pink - they seem to be a little late this year.

    1. I see so few bunnies now compared to a few years ago. More being caught by foxes now they aren't being hunted perhaps? I do love to see them bobbing around in the grass and not squished on the roadside. In our shed was an old bed, bits of kitchen work top and cupboards, old lamps, bit of wood and metal pipes that 'may come in useful on day' - now all gone:)

  9. Well done on the shed task Rosie - I always think when you do something like that it also declutters your mind a little! And what a treat to be visited by those bunnies x Jane

    1. It does feel good to de-clutter occasionally, my mind has been distinctly addled rather than de-cluttered this week by all the heat. The bunnies were lovely:)

  11. Four lovely images give the impression of some relaxing and happy moments this week although I'm sure the shed clear-out took some time and effort to complete. A job well done! I hope you're feeling better.

    1. Feeling better now thanks, Linda. We did chose a bad time to do the shed but we put an awning up whilst we cleared it and had it ready to put in the skip when it arrived. We did manage a couple of relaxing walks too:)

  12. Hi Rosie,

Oh, how I can relate to that 'save it in case it comes in useful' scenario! My husband is a real pack-rat and not only do we have a shed that you need to be a contortionist to get into, but a basement stacked high with mysterious boxes. I've lost possessions over the years because they have been packed in our many moves and they've never resurfaced....every time, I've been told that we will have a clear-out after the move!!! It sounds like I need more than one skip.

Thank you for your kind comments on my health. I am still off work for another couple of weeks and I am feeling a little better.

I am glad to hear that you are feeling better now. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Marie x

    1. Thanks, Marie I hope you have a restful weekend too. We got to the poijnt where we couldn't get into the shed at all and just had to throw things in and haul things out over the top of other things - it really was time for a clear out:)

  13. Hi Rosie, I thought I had commented on here, but reading back it appears I didn't (I sometimes sneak a peak whilst I am at work, but daren't comment !!) I love it when damsel and dragon flies appear in the garden, they are quite magical. No wonder that bunny made you smile. I hope you are feeling much better Rosie xxxxx

    1. We saw some lovely dragonflies along the Cuckoo Way on the Chesterfield Canal near Nona's Cafe when we walked with Jean and Ishka yesterday - pity Nona's was closed but we sat outside anyway chatting in the sunshine:)
