Yesterday.....

I came across........

Gertrude Jekyll

Darcy Bussell

Anne Boleyn

Falstaff

Jude the Obscure

and Tess of the Durbevilles
to name but a few. They were all here......

The gardens were looking so beautiful but some of my photos weren't great as it was too bright in the sun.

You can wander through the long garden and the cloister

make your way around the Victorian Garden

and follow your nose into the Renaissance Garden.

The man in the white shirt was whirling around like a dervish, flapping pieces of papers and talking into his phone.

We did wonder what on earth it was all about when a camera crew arrived with a huge camera and one of those large, fuzzy microphones.

Then a woman appeared with a small, sprightly elderly gentleman with white hair.  They moved one of the benches out into the garden and soon he was being interviewed. We made our way quietly out of this part of the garden.

We think from what was being said about him starting up the business that it was probably David Austin himself.  I wonder if this will eventually appear on the television?

Above is not a great photo but I had to take one of the Wedgwood Rose.

The pretty rose above is called The Lady Gardener

David Austin Rose Gardens and Plant Centre are in the village of Albrighton in Shropshire.  We usually visit when we go to the RAF Cosford Museum which is close by.

After spending quite a while in the gardens we drove the short distance round the lanes to Cosford to see if we could see anything about the Dornier 17 plane that has recently been brought up out of the sea on the south coast.

I won't mix planes with roses on this post as it is over long already.  I'll just give you a - link  - to Paul's latest blog post where he has written about the Dornier 17 conservation display we saw.

    1. The gardens are lovely - a little hard to find as they are down winding lanes through the village but well worth the effort:)

  4. They are all so beautiful! The Flastaff is my favourite from those that you showed, but any rose is beautiful if you ask me, I can't imagine meeting a rose that I didn't like. I wonder if was indeed David Austin, he is in his late 80's so it could well have been him that was being interviewed! It would be great if you saw it sometime on TV wouldn't it! xx

    1. Yes, I think it was David Austin as we saw his photo later in the back of a book in the shop. Falstaff is a beautiful rose:)

  5. Beautiful beautiful roses! We were going to there on the day of the air show at cosford and have a sneaky peek at the planes without paying to go in but events prevented that. x

    1. Apparently they charge £15 to park on Air Show Day - the rest of the year it's free. You would certainly get a wonderful view from their car park:)

  6. Oh my what a lovely selection of roses - I didn't realise you could visit the gardens - I have Gertrude Jekyll but the Darcy Bussell is a wonderful colour - I think I may just have to order that one. So if it does come on television shall we be on the lookout for the lovely Rosie in the background!

    1. Oh, no I kept out of the way but it would be nice to see whatever it was they were filming for. The Darcy Bussell rose was rather gorgeous but I love Gertrude Jekyll:)

  8. Beautiful roses - all of them. The photos are lovely and I especially noticed the one of the roses reflected in the water. A sunny day makes all the difference to the enjoyment of a day out!
