Days of Richness and Plenty

Haven't the last few days been wonderful?

Days shortened by early morning mists and brilliant sunsets

Mornings that were the harbingers of autumn.........

followed by afternoons and evenings still clinging to the last rays of the summer sun

the seasonal downpours welcomed by the gardens

where dusty cobwebs create fairy bridges between trees, plants and flowers

It's hard to bid the summer farewell

but very soon we must do just that

To help us feel able to take that step

the garden is full of riches

Veritable jewels in the crown

of the gardening year

As we look back on how wonderful it all was

We also look forward to the new season's rich bounty.

Photos taken on Wednesday 4th September in the walled garden, orchard and kitchen garden at Attingham Park.

  1. What wonderful end of summer photos - I thought for a moment you were going to say they were all in your garden - and I was beginning to grow green with envy. Attingham Park kitchen garden is certainly full of riches.

    1. I wish some of the produce were ours and that we had such rich and lovely soil to grow in instead of clay. Attingham's gardens are delightful in all seasons:)

  4. Great post - it almost makes me look forward to Autumn.

But honestly, I hate this time of year. I hate the passing of summer, with the dread of the dark gloomy days for months and months ahead of us.

    1. I'm not so keen on this time of year either, I grow wistful at the end of summer and don't really like the darker nights but the days have been so lovely that is helping to face up to the colder days to come. I think November and January and February are my least favourite months:)

    1. True, things are slowing down in the garden and the brown wheelie bin collections stop in October so the council think we all stop gardening then - we don't, but do much less. It has been a wonderful summer:)

  6. What a wonderful post. As an Autumn lover I am really enjoying the coolness of the evenings now, but it has been great this week to see the harvesting being done in the warm sunshine. A lovely goodbye to a summer. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Chel x

    1. I think the combination of the sunshine and the darker evenings has spared us from feeling we've gone straight into autumn and that there is still a little bit of summer left to enjoy. I feel happier letting it go this year than last - probably because we didn't have much of a summer anyway:)

  7. What a lovely post Rosie and you captured the last days of summer beautifully. Autumn is looming and for me I'm looking forward to it with its misty mornings and chilly evenings. My favourite time of the year.

    1. Thanks, Patricia. I just think the transition this year between Summer and Autumn had been so glorious weather wise. It will soon be time to get the cardigans and socks out and then later put the heating on:)

  8. Lovely words and photos. I've been enjoying the beginning of autumn - cold, misty mornings :)

Great photos from Attingham. I'd been hoping to revisit earlier in the year but we didn't make it and there's no chance now I'm back at school - what a busy week it has been! Sorry I haven't replied yo your comment yet, but yes, I am near you, I don't want to name the school in this comment but it's nice to know there's a friendly face nearby should I need it!
