Last week's visit and walk took us to Biddulph Grange Gardens. It was raining when we arrived so we decided to stop for coffee and a scone first and by the time we came out of the café the rain had petered out and there was a watery sun in the sky.
The Fuchsias in the urns down each side of the steps were looking wonderful.
We wandered down the Lime Avenue and discovered at the bottom that the Ha Ha Walk was open again. We'd walked it once but then it seemed to close for quite a while .
Bird feeders and insect hotels
Lots of fungus too on fallen trees
The Ha Ha Walk comes out on to the Wellingtonia Walk.
Look at them now after nearly thirty years of growth.
The steps and walk up to the Geological Gallery.
Above is the area where James Bateman's Music House stood.

The path through the trees with yellow leaves strewn on the ground is my favourite photo, it's so atmospheric. Biddulph Grange is such a pretty garden, lovely at all times of the year. Look at all those beautiful fossils, such good specimens.😊
ReplyDeleteThank you CK, Biddulph certainly delivers lots of photo opportunities and is delightful in all seasons. I love the fossils, all set in the wall, some original some copies and the originals safely in store:)
DeleteSuch a beautiful place to walk. Now I must go and find out what a ha ha is!
ReplyDeleteThank you Granny Sue, apologies for not explaining what a Ha-Ha is, I hope you enjoyed finding out:)
DeleteA lovely walk. And those trees are impressive. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Jules, it was a lovely walk, the trees have grown so tall:)
DeleteA really lovely walk. Biddulph Grange looks so autumnal and great to see the fungi photos. Those saplings have really grown in the years since they have been planted! We missed the Geological Gallery when we visited. I really must return at some stage. Have a good week and take care Rosie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, like the Ha-Ha walk the Geological gallery also had times of being closed whilst it was being refurbished, I hope you can return one day to see it. Hope you too have a good week:)
DeleteThat’s my ideal walk! Lovely photos! We came across a ‘ha ha’ when we visited Saltram House.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sal, it was a lovely seasonal walk. I always associate a Ha-Ha with Capability Brown but I'm sure the idea must go much further back than that. I've heard of Saltram House but never visited:)
DeleteWhat a beautiful and lovely place to walk and enjoy -- Thanks for taking us along!! 🥰
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim, it is a lovely place and quite close for us to visit often:)
DeleteIsn’t it lovely when they reopen areas that have been closed for ages. It seems to happen a lot as they restore and improve. Always worth waiting for. That hedge is huge now. I think I preferred the view before. B x
ReplyDeleteThank you B. It was good to take that walk again, it added more to the visit and the understanding of the layout of both grange and country park when they were the same estate. The trees are huge now and that part of the walk seems darker:)
DeleteSuch a beautiful place. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Simone, it is a super place and not too far away from home:)
DeleteHello. I’ve just started following you. You may remember me @A place for everything but I decided to start again.
ReplyDeleteHello Patricia, welcome back to blogging, I will pop over and visit your new blog:)
DeleteThankyou.
DeleteSorry I’m not anonymous just forgot to tick.
DeleteThis is a lovely NT property and grounds to visit. The trees are looking beautiful in their final Autumn colours and those sapplings have certainly grown. We must try and visit again soon, especialy as the Ha Ha walk has reopened. Thank you for reminding me about Biddulph Grange.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley, it is a lovely place and we visit often. I hope the Ha-Ha walk stays open for when you visit again, they have a Christmas Light walk at the moment:)
