Into March we go, I thought I'd be glad to say goodbye to February this year but the last three or four days of it were beautiful with a gentle hint of Spring. The weekend was beautiful too.
I forgot to say White Rabbits on the 1st March. It was something that we always said when I was a child. A superstition I suppose like touching wood, crossing fingers and not opening umbrellas indoors. Lots of others like throwing salt over your left shoulder if you spilt any and not passing anyone else on a staircase. Not walking under ladders always seemed sensible to me as danger could lurk there for those both up and under the ladder.
White rabbits at Peak Wildlife Park. They are usually out in the open but these had been kept inside because of the kits.
Spring flowers are opening up in the garden and the heather is buzzing with bees. I can actually hear them over the hissing of tinnitus in my ears.
There have been some wonderful evening skies. Red sky at night, a shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning. Another saying or superstition from childhood. There are many of those. Have you any to share?
The picture on the calendar is really lovely, and sums March up perfectly. Your flowers all look so beautiful. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Jules, the calendar is Jo Grundy's Country Year, we've had one of her calendars the last couple of years. Lots of the flowers in pots are out but the daffodils in the garden still in bud:)
DeleteLovely photos! We’ve had blue skies here too..but it’s been so cold! 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you Sal, yes still cold mornings - a slight frost here but warm afternoons and very blue skies:)
DeleteOur March came in like a lion, I think, very windy and a bit chilly.
ReplyDeleteYour photosare so very spring-like!
I love weather lore, and have collected a lot of it. One i hope will not be true is thunder in February means frost in May. We certainly had thunder last month.
We have heard spring peepers already. These are little frogs that trill loudly and are one of our first harbingers of Spring.
Thank you Granny Sue, oh yes, March coming in like a lion. going out like a lamb, I hope this happens for you after such harsh weather. I like the sound of your spring peepers, they must be a delight to hear:)
DeleteWe say Red sky at night, Sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning. I guess it depends on the surrounding landscape.
ReplyDeleteThe colour in that sky is really something, and all the spring flowers so welcome.
Thank you Lorrie, yes, I expect it depends where you live. I grew up in a small, farming village so we learned the shepherds one. I'd never seen the sky so red had to nip outside and take a photo down the street:)
DeleteIt is so good to see some sunshine and dry weather at last. I remember the expression "White Rabbits" on the first day of the month and Red Sky at Night :) The Spring flowers in your garden look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline. It is good to have some sunshine and dry weather although we still had a slight frost this morning. For some reason all the Spring flowers that have blossomed are blue or purple - except the Snowdrops - the yellows aren't out yet:)
DeleteLovely to see the Spring blooms in your garden and for you to hear the bees as they visit the heather. Those little white kits with their mum are very sweet. Happy sunny March days to you, Rosie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverley, the rabbits are cute and there were loads of bees on the heather, let's hope for some sunny days this month:)
DeleteLots of lovely things to see in your March Post, don't those rabbits look so clean! Sorry I'm a bit late, I've been away. 😊
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a wonderful time:)
